Looking at 100+ pounds to lose has sidetracked me often...my perfectionism is an issue as well. I am working on realistic goal setting and motivation.
I'm following the Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson. This helps me combat my insulin resistance. After 26 years of following "conventional wisdom" to lose weight and ending up at 250+, I'm ready for a change!

You aren't kidding about the food tour!!! Formerly, when I would plan a trip to NOLA I would start thinking about what I was going to eat!! But there are so many wonderful things about that place, I'm sure I will have a great time regardless.
