To be able to sustain aerobic activity for 10 to 20 minutes for heart health; Improve physical condition through stretching and eventually add on light strength training; Drink 8 glasses of water a day to prevent any further kidney disease; Monitor diet to prevent diabetes (since tests show I have prediabetes) and hopefully over time drop 15 pounds; Manage stress, including trying for regular meditation. All this while working within some limitations caused by fibro pain and fatigue.
I'm trying to improve my health since I learned early this year (2014) that I'm prediabetic, have high blood pressure and early stage kidney disease. Gosh was I blown away. After thinking the situation over, I decided to trim my work hours to 30 hours per week and use this new personal time for health improvement activities. Currently that includes light exercise (I have fibro and all activity causes pain), stretching and dabbling in meditation to reduce stress and tracking my diet on SparkPeople. While having been absent from SparkPeople for about 7 years, and gained 35 pounds during that period, I knew this was the place to turn. Thanks to everyone who welcomed me back.
I live in the central U.S. - Missouri. We have cold winters and hot, humid summers! My granddaughter lives a few states away. We try to schedule a week together every 3 or 4 months so I can "watch her grow."
I love sitting by my husband and watching evening TV together. I enjoy "playing house" - that is setting a table with pretty linens and dishes. But my husband is the cook in our family.
Thanks Joyce for stopping by my page with your nice comments. We do have the "tiger by the tail" don't we? What a great feeling. Nice to see your new goals. I have a ways to go but I am concentrating of each meal, each day etc... Baby steps are good for me.
Won't it be delightful when we are out of the "over weight" catagory and our BMI's are better? Your labs and mine too, will reflect our hard work and success. Now that is something to shout about. Hope you are finding silly and fun things to entertain you this summer. Don't be a stranger.
Thanks for your wonderful comments on the team page. We might be related!
Loved what you said about your health and deciding to take charge of it. Scary times but for some reason, we have been given the incredible gift of waking from tasting the poisoned Carmel Apples (with nuts) and I just feel incredibly lucky. It seems so few of us make such big changes. Few dare to believe they can. I did not mention my kidney failure (they called it dehydration) but I was not doing well. Nice going on your progress. You are a very motivating person.
I hope you don't mind, I took the liberty of adding you as one of my friends. I'm not really into collecting them but I'd love to stay in contact with you one way or another.
Thanks again for reaching out to me. I enjoyed your Sparkpage writings.
You have my best. Be happy, healthy and laugh whenever you can. -Holly
Hi Karen. Thank you for stopping by my page. Yes, I have low thyroid, and I also am diabetic, and I also have Fibro. And I'm on a lot of med. I too had stayed away from Sparks for a period of time, but now I'm back and I'm staying here, as it's the only encouragement I get with this situation. I wish you a great day. Dee P.S. I added you as my friend.
