Tricia's Journey

Hello to Everyone!
SparkPeople has served me well. I started this journey in May 2011 and officially using Spark since July 2011. My successes and setbacks all recorded here as the journey continues with maintenance. I hope to continue to work through this with the help of fellow Sparkers and possibly help others along the way.

Hello to Everyone!

After close to 3 yrs I have finally hit goal! Learning maintenance is a continual journey...

(updated 2/14/12)
I've been a Spark member since July 2011 and have lost about 40lbs with another 15lbs to go. Right now Feb 2012 I am at a turning point. As soon as I started to feel really good and peak at a 40lb loss and no longer in the obese BMI range I regressed. I gained 7lbs and just couldn't find the umph! I had at the beginning. But I am still frequented Spark on occasion in search of better days to come without gaining and losing the last bit of weight and MOST OF ALL, MAINTAINING.
(JULY 2011) I am setting out on yet another weightloss journey. I Have about 50lbs to lose and most importantly, maintain the loss.
At 47 years old its as much a matter of feeling good as looking good but hope to do both. Hope there's a few of you out there who can inspire and cheer me on, and hope I can do the same for someone else.

My highest weight ever I believe was about 235 but I've held it at 229 for the last year or so. I decided to give it another go in April 2011 by addressing emotional eating, compulsive/binge eating, and food addiction. By July 2011 I was 223. That's when I joined SP to really work to get the weight off.

It's been a about 3 yrs since I started this journey and have lost 57lbs...feeling great...
It all began here:
July 13, 2011 222lbs 47lbs to go
July 20 219.2 -4lbs
July 27 216 -3lbs
Aug 3 213.8 -3lbs

Feeling really good at this point, but starting to worry about if I can keep it going.
August 10 213.5 maintained - 38lbs to go
August 17 212.4 Okay...unexpected -1lb

My Goals:
I wanted to lose about 50lbs in 6 months when I started Sparking July 2011. After 2 years of Sparking I maintained a 40 lb loss. Rounding out year three I finally hit goal of of 175 lbs with a 57 lb loss and this has been the longest maintenance I have ever experienced in my lifetime.
I call this my success story! Never could say that before Spark experience. So much new knowledge, inspiration, and motivation found here.
The journey continues...

I want to feel better physically and look better, too!

My Program:
I'm following:
- the top of suggested calorie counts for my age and weight recommended by SPARK by tracking
-belong to a small ladies fitness club and practice yoga. I am also a regulator outdoor walker as weather permits. I have been flexible but consistent with regular exercise!

Personal Information:
I am 50 years old, live in rural Louisiana, married 32 yrs, mother of two grown children, and now a grandmother of two. I work as an elementary school teacher/librarian.

The pups and I say Hi! and Thanks for the bloglove on my
After 100 Days - A Subjective Assessment post. It's true - I found the long challenge and the egotistical motivation somewhat unrewarding but I did finish what I started and the whole thing has given me time to think of Other Things I Might Try. For sure, Callie and Juno are glad I spent so much time with them.

I think I will be less rebellious at the thought of reaching a Happy Weight than some stupid Goal Weight. Happy weight has so much room for subjectivity!

downward we go

Once again, thanks for your wise and motivating comment on my blog. Such good advice, your insight is invaluable. Kanoe, too is very wise, and we can all take advantage of these mantras that inspire others. They inspire me too. I just went outside and discovered a bag of Cookie Chips I ordered earlier this year in the fridge in the garage. YIKES! I opened it up (it was unopened, I had forgotten all about it, after devouring the other three bags of them I ordered) ate three of them (5 Cookie Chips are 120 calories--supposedly a low-cal snack--and we all know how poorly I handle those low-cal snacks), and threw the rest in the "dirty" trash outside, then threw out some old chicken enchilada soup all over them.Isn't it sad the things we have to do to keep from "cheating?" But I knew if I left those cookies in the fridge, they would call to me until they were gone. Even I won't eat them now!

Thanks for commenting on my blog. You are so right, taking care of Du would be so much more difficult if I weighed 300+ lbs. like I used to. He is capable of doing everything for himself right now, but I try to step up and take some of his immense responsibilities off his shoulders just to help and because I am now capable of doing so much more. I know our future is going to be much harder than it is now and I will need to do more for him as he becomes sicker. I need to tell myself how important it is that I keep this weight off so I can take care of him, when I am tempted to binge. He has done so much for me, especially when I couldn't do it for myself because of my weight. He never judged or made me question his love for me, and it's time for me to step up, ignore those voices that tell me to EAT, and help him out in anyway I can!

I am glad that you are doing so well and knocked those 10 pounds off. Enjoy your Easter and spring break. We just finished our break. We have 8 weeks left of school. Hope your last weeks of work are good ones.
