I know what you mean about the 12 hour shifts, after losing my husband I worked 12 hour nights for 12 years while trying to hold together the farm. I retired in June and am playing catch up with all the things I never had time to do. This time of year fencing is a big task, with 13 pastures to repair!
Sour dough is not hard, I started the current starter about 3-4 years ago, sort of cooked the last one I had for about 15 years by turning on the oven while it was in there! I use the King Arthur flour website, they have a starter recipe, a long article on maintaining your starter and tons of tried and proven recipes, they extensively test all the recipes. I do make adjustments to a lot of recipes, I find adding gluten to whole grain recipes is a must, I love several of the rye breads, but especially the sourdough rye. I spent the winter experimenting with recipes and making notes, now I have three types of rye, an oatmeal, a cinnamon raisin bread, and two sourdough loves I make often. I have cut recipes back to make smaller loaves. I also make sourdough waffles, crackers, pretzels and sourdough pizza dough. My next experiment is working with whole wheat. My 91 yo Dad asked for some starter to make waffles! I have been making notes and am going to do a blog on bread with links to the recipes and notes to see what I changed.

Thanks for the nice comments on my blog Doing More. Sounds like your getting started for the garden.
I check out the temps everyday for Mpls. nice to see it has been warm so that the snow is melting, and just nice to be warming up for the state.
So far this week has been going fine, would like to get to the pool today, but cloudy and windy again. So will be doing some inside work today, along with my knee exercises and stretches.

Hi Dee. I wanted to thank you for commenting on my blog. Thanks! I am glad that you were able to resist the carmel popcorn! That would have been tough for me! Little changes like that will help you to get to the place that you want to be, great job! Thanks for stopping by and for all the encouragement! You got this!

Hey there Dee, how did your last night go? DD Rev and DGD Bella are hanging in there. Rev got Ric's ashes last night. Bella had a meltdown when she saw the urn. She's almost 21, but loved her daddy so much. It's a daily struggle for Rev, so worried about finances. I just want to go up and hug them. Bob and I are doing pretty good. He went to the VA today, eye Dr. They are going to take a cataract off next month. Hope he has better vision from it then. We are going to get rain tomorrow then will freeze, so we aren't leaving the house this weekend. How are you and your family? How is the juicing going? I'm working really hard on my nutrition as I promised Ric I would take care of Rev and Bella. Have to make sure I do whatever it takes to get healthy to be around. Have a great weekend
    Hugs
