Papamikie

My Name is Michael but I go by Papamikie or Popie, (POP EE) for short. This handle fits, as I am known as “Aden’s Popie” on our street where most of the young kids call me Popie and Leanna, Gramie. We typically supervise the afternoon and evening play on our quiet crescent during the warmer spring, summer and fall months.

My daughter said, "Popie, Gramie and I have been worried about you, and I think Little Bug, needs to have you around for awhile..."

The rest, as they say, "Is history."

That is Little Bug (Aden) with me in the before and after shots.

Began at 244 and am presently 160 (165-155 I like a range better). To begin it was an effort to do 15 minutes of light cardio, now I typically do mix of runs from 7.5k to 18K at 130-145 bpm pace about 10 k/hour.

Other Achievements:
Apr 2010 V02Max testing Top 10% of 20 year olds at age 55


12 month ending Aug 2010 3000 plus km
12 month ending Sep 2010 3000 plus km
12 month ending Oct 2010 3000 plus km

Sept 06 2010 did a 26km run in 2 hours and 40 min, saying good bye to being 55.
Sept 07 2010 did an 11km birthday run

Chi Running
Apr 2010 began Chi Running working from the books and DVD
Apr 2010 took a one day intro to Chi Running in Ottawa

Aug 21 2010 1 day Chi Running with Danny Dreyer, the creator of Chi-running.

Coming up (Registered events)
Feb 17, 18, 19, 20 Ft. Lauderdale Chi Running Certification Training.

May 2011 began to practice Tai Chi Chuan Yang Lu-Chan form sometimes called Yang old Frames

May 28 2011 5km with Son and two Grand Sons
May 29 2011 Half with Curt (oldest Grand Son)
I will be helping my son and youngest grandson to train for the 5km.

Jun 11 2011 10km with Curt. I let Curt start near the front I started at the back. He was going for a PR and I wanted to be out of the way. At the back there was a woman with a baby strapped to the front of her. She said that her husband had been called out of town on business and they did not allow strollers in the 10km therefore the baby in front. She said, “Man I hope I pass at least one person.”

I told her I would run out in front and she could pass me, I also said that I would be under an hour so she could tell people who asked about her time that she was not sure, but that she passed a guy who was in under an hour.

I also plan to begin formally teaching Chi Running in 2011.

I write irregular blogs on Running, Chi Running , Tai Chi Chuan and other things that strike my fancy.

Thanks for visiting and contributing to my blog. I am trying to drum up some interest for the team. I was pleasantly surprised to see some of my sparkfriends using the principles behind ChiR.

Hey - I actually forgot I was part of that running team. I don't run anymore really... the last run I did was the army run half marathon 3 years ago.

Basically, I tore both my ACL and MCL on both knees about 8 years ago, and really got into running after the surgeries. Everything was fine pretty much, but then I re-tore my miniscus and was getting a lot of degeneration issues in my knee that was injured first... so, my surgeon kinda said I can plan to have knee replacement at 40, and should stop running. They have been fine, no pain, for a while now, so I'll see... I miss running a lot.

My secret plan is to get super strong, lose weight, and then maybe be able to do short runs. :)
