Hello from Costa Rica! I'm a Costa Rican, living in Costa Rica.
I'm a proud member of the Awesome A Team - 5% Challenges.
My weight loss story:
For about 3 years, I was unable to get the motivation and determination (the big push) necessary to embrace and enjoy a complete change in my lifestyle seriously, until I got into the 5% challenges. I was always procrastinating the big start.
Thanks to the 2014 Summer 5% Challenge, I lost 5.4 pounds. And to the 2014 Fall 5% Challenge, I lost 4.6 pounds more and reached my goal weight (a total of 10 lbs lost).
I am extremely happy I've found invaluable friends along this lifelong journey here at SP.

To have fun, sharing and accomplishing goals together with my SP friends in this lifelong health journey.
I reached my goal weight on Nov 8, 2014. My center weight is 128 pounds. The lifelong, and so far very difficult, maintenance challenge continues.
2017 Winter 5% Challenge
A minimum of 60 m of exercise, walking/hiking/other, 6 days a week. This may include 30 min of stretching and ST, 2 to 3 days a week.
As for my diet, nothing specific but to eat as healthy as possible within my calorie range to maintain or lose weight.
I'm above my center weight. My main goal for this challenge is to go back to my center weight or below.
I live in Grecia, Alajuela, Costa Rica, in the mountains (at an altitude of 4757 ft). I'm 58, married for 39 years. Three grown children already gone, and three grandkids. I'm currently working as a part time caregiver at home for my granddaughter almost 7, and her baby brother 19 months old.
My first SparkFriend in this page is my daughter and my granddaughter (pic taken about 5 years ago).
Besides my family, I enjoy my daily routine of walking for two hours, caring for my pets, 4 dogs - 4 cats, the Internet forums -SP, reading, watching movies or TV series. I also love to travel overseas, but can't afford to do so as often as I'd like to.
I'm an atheist with total respect for people's beliefs.

Yesterday started out rough for hubby and I when we had problems with the caretaker from the VA and the caretaker we where to interview from the state did not even show up. The VA sends out fair care takers most of the time and I really think it is a blessing when they come, so I am just going to let it slide when we get a bad one. They take good care of hubby and do not mistreat him it is just that some don't do the "light housekeeping" very well. I can do that myself alright I just need to get out of the house now and than. So will go easy on the girls., and not complain. I keep singing in my head "look on the sunny side of life...."
Day 16 binge free. Had a friend of hubby's over for dinner last night. I made cookies for desert. I had a package of ready made ones you just bake. The package made up only 9 so we each had 3. Worked out so good for me.
Just got a call from the agency sending out VA caretakers and they are sending a guy this week. I told hubby to not even ask him to do housework, not that he would not be good at it, just let him watch sports with hubby. Hubby can have some guy time.

Enjoy your reading, nothing like a good book. When I go out to the VA with hubby I try and pick up at least one book. People donate them for the vets but I bet they don't mind if a wife picks one up. I have always been married to vets in my 4 marriages and even my one live in. I had to go through some practice relationships before I found this good man I am married to now. And he went through a few marriages of his own. We have been together almost 12 years. It had it's rough times in the beginning but we worked through it and grew.
I have been working hard to get this over eating under control and I can say I am binge free 15 days but have had some days of over eating. I am going back to tracking my eating. I think that works pretty well for me. Control is not the issue it is planning and calories watching that does it for me.

Hubby feeling good today and so am I, just hanging around home today, having a fasting day and doing good. Have been working on new recipes for hubby. I love to cook and like making new things for him to eat. Making grilled fish with a beet and raw sauerkraut salad for his dinner.
Met my goal of walking 5 miles a week, not as much as before but still good.
