Hello from Costa Rica!

Hello from Costa Rica!

I've found three constants in my journey to losing weight:
1. It's all up to you, nobody else.
2. Calories-in HAVE to be less than calories-out.
3. You have to suffer, but it's totally worth it.

Thanks to the 2014 Summer 5% Challenge, I lost 5.4 pounds. And to the 2014 Fall 5% Challenge, I lost 4.6 pounds more and reached my goal weight (a total of 10 lbs lost). Aiming a more middle range BMI, I decided to go for 126 lbs which I reached (for a grand total of 19 lbs lost since I joined SP). For about 3 years, I was unable to get the motivation and determination (the big push) necessary to embrace and enjoy a complete change in my lifestyle seriously, until I got into challenges. I was always procrastinating the big start.

I am extremely happy I've found invaluable friends along this lifelong journey here at SP. My dear mentor: Ramona, GODS TEMPLE.

My Goals:
To have fun, sharing and accomplishing goals in the life long journey towards our health, in our lifestyle change.

I reached my goal weight on Nov 8, 2014. My center weight is 126 pounds.

My Program:
Winter 5% Challenge Exercise Commitment
A minimum of 120 min of exercise, mostly hiking, 5 to 6 days a week. Plus 20-30 min of stretching / ST, 3 days a week.

As for my diet, nothing specific but to eat as healthy as possible within my calorie range to maintain or lose weight.

Personal Information:
I live in Grecia, Alajuela, Costa Rica. I'm a Costa Rican. I live in the mountains (at an altitude of 4757 ft). Married for a lot of years. 3 grown-up kids already gone, and two and a half grandkids. I'm currently working as a caregiver at home for my elderly mom (with senile dementia), my granddaughter, and another grandson baby on the way.

My interests:
Besides my family, I love walking/hiking, the Internet forums -SP, reading, watching movies, my pets, 4 dogs - 4 cats. I love to travel overseas, but can't afford to do it as often as I'd like.

Today, as I am reflecting on what my goals for February should be, I came upon the following quote by Don Lancaster:

Most "impossible" goals can be met simply by breaking them down into bite size chunks, writing them down, believing them, and then going full speed ahead as if they were routine.

Hi, Thanks for stopping by my page! Oh...Yes! I am looking forward to Spring! We have a short growing season and after our long winters we look forward to digging in the dirt again. It is always fun to see which plants survived the snow. I guess we are easily entertained after months of cold and snow! lol

emoticon for stopping by my blog! I think the secret to keeping up that way of thinking is to keep practicing! There will always be times old thoughts and habits pop up but how we handle them is what really counts and each time we do well it helps us for the next time!
