Logging what I eat and how I exercise every day is my key to keeping my weight in check.

The primary dates for the beginning of my weight loss are November 23 and December 25, 2013. That's when I had my hips replaced. The pain and deterioration came on suddenly over the fall of 2013. My doctor and my counselors and friends had started suggesting I lose weight, and one was concerned enough that she started measuring my waist every time I saw her. I was on blood pressure pills and pills for depression. My anxiety level was over the top.

I joined in March 2014. That coincides with the time that I was again "allowed" to exercise after the surgeries.First it was a chore to walk 50 feet with a walker...I increased it until my daughter PURPLESWIMMER asked me to join her on a 5K. She needed someone to push her wheelchair. Now we have about six races a year, and have increased the distance gradually.

I had physical therapy, personal training, counseling...everything going for me, and SPARK really was what really did it. I started my exercise by walking with a walker about half a block, then resting. It took me about six months to lose the 42 pounds. Now I've been in maintenance for 21 months. and the Leader of two teams (now 3) for almost that long. I'm one pound over my goal weight and know I'll lose that with a little more effort.

Spark keeps me on track. I am under tremendous stress with my husband in hospice. I'm SO glad I had the therapy which broached the subject of how scared I was that he would die and I would be incapable of doing things on my own. I've created a whole support system of wonderful friends and become much more independent and confident. I've truly branched out from a hobbyist to a Fiber Artist. I believe it is due to setting goals and working SPARK.

I don't know if any of you know this, but I'll soon be 71. Please...Don't let "eventual decline" get you. It doesn't HAVE to happen. At least, not until the end of life. My mother was taking exercise classes and walking daily at least until 85 years old. I'm stronger and healthier NOW than I've been in the last 50 years. As a Wellness Coordinator of a state agency, and a Home Economics Teacher, I've probably been more aware of diet and exercise than most. The drive to recover from surgery plus the accountability factor in SPARK have made ALL the difference.

I've signed on as the Leader for three teams..the Claau 70s, Olympia WA Spark! and Spin Me a Yarn. It's my way of giving back to SparkPeople and keeping me motivated.

I love crafts in almost any form. My newest skillset are in spinning yarn and weaving fabric.

My Goals:
To reach the right weight for maximum energy.

To complete the 2016 Winter 5% Challenge by
1)doing my part for my Team, 2) meeting new Sparkers.
3) having fun.

My Program:
I'm keeping up the exercise routine established with my Personal Trainer. Using SparkPeople every day.

Personal Information:
I'm 70 years old and happy with my life. Glad to be healthy and able to walk again.
