Hi Helen, After many years of GI issues, and having my Gallbladder out I gained weight, had terrible inflammation and the Drs. would say, eat less, eat whole grain and it just got worse. So I did my own research. After reading a book (among many) called, "Wheat Belly" by a William Davis it dawned on me that I found my problem. When I gave up wheat it was like night and day with my GI. I didn't have pain like a lot of people have, I had to constantly go to the bathroom and caused major anxiety and staying home a lot. I hated that! I still have challenging days, but it is incredibly different. I have more energy and will never go back to wheat, corn or green peppers to name the main culprits. I eat several small meals a day and keep my cals quite low right now, but will go up as I exercise more. Trying to do one thing at a time. It works! Wheat is just a toxin for me! Have a wonderful day! You deserve it!! Hugs, Cathy
Forgot to mention...I finally figured out that my body doesn't tolerate wheat at all! There are a few other foods I have to be careful with or not eat as well. Since taking wheat out of my diet I have started to lose weight again. I feel better, the GI issues are minimal (which is a huge change!) and I think so much more clearly and the inflammation is almost if not all gone. YAY! It's amazing how food can be to toxic to the body. Hope you are doing very well!! Hugs, Cathy
Yea, there's my Helen! I knew one day that you would pop back into Spark! And, of course I remember you..you silly girl.
Well, guess there is a few major details I can fill you in on, that have happened with me since we've been away from Spark...
1. One year ago, exactly, I got hit by a full sized Dodge 2500 truck, as I was walking to work. In all honesty...it's a miracle that I'm even here to speak with you. I was thrown 3 feet UP and then landed 12 -15 feet onto the pavement. I ended up with a grade 3 concussion, staples in my head, and was 100% knocked out for 2 hours. Thankfully I had not a single broken bone, which is proof that all my weight lifting has given me some super strong bones..which is pretty darn impressive at the age of 51. I ended up with a horrible case of vertigo for 5 weeks and didn't fully recover, physically & mentally, for 3 full months. Oh, and I lost all memory from the moments BEFORE being hit, until the full 2+ hours I was out..even to this very day.
2. While nowhere near as traumatic as #1 was...it appears that I have reached the menopausal stage of my life. Yet, once again, I'm sure due to my healthy eating & fitness level (I started to prepare for this time, way back when I was 45yrs old) the ONLY symptom I've experienced is that my once straight hair has gone curly!! HA And I'm loving it!! Not sure if it's gonna keep getting curlier or not, cause it's still hormonally controlled and its been a gradual process?? But it's fun and makes me really love my new long hair, if you haven't noticed from the pictures.
Anyway...those are my updates. Now, tell me what has been going on with you. Still teaching & writing books, I'm sure. But, the one thing you better not say, is that you are STILL 39 years old!! LOL I've been reading that on your Page for years, so I know it just can not be true! :))
Well, hope to hear from you soon. I will be sure to check in nightly. So happy to talk with you again...it's like old times.
I'm still hanging in and waiting for your return, Helen. Sure hope you get a touch of Spark fever so we can chat again! There's been a few changes for me, since we last spoke, so I'd hope we can get caught up.
