The Year Ahead!

The past year has been a whirlwind moving to a new state and beginning construction of our home. Not only did we relocate 450 miles south but we went from a metropolitan suburb to a rural farm.

It's been a year of stagnation to an uptick of nearly 15 pounds but I'm ready to push hard into the new year. Our house should be complete in April/May and not only will I have more free time but I will have my own Fitness Room. I have missed my elliptical, treadmill and bike!

It's been a year of stagnation to an uptick of nearly 15 pounds but I'm ready to push hard into the new year. Our house should be complete in April/May and not only will I have more free time but I will have my own Fitness Room. I have missed my elliptical, treadmill and bike!

I've not yet settled on what I'm going to do as an accountability group but I am going to do "something". I'm leaning with using my blog space to stay accountable and hopefully encourage/inspire someone else to do the same.

My Goals:
1) Lose 10 pounds in BTS Q2.
2) Get 45000 steps a week minimum.
3) Strength Train 2 x a week.
4) Get to ONEDERLAND.

My Program:
I am eating within my calorie range and exercising 40-60 minutes a day. I continue to cook healthy foods and widen my food selections to include more fruits, vegetables, grains, and lean proteins. I track my food and fitness faithfully.

I am married with one grown son, three dachshunds and an african grey parrot.

This Holiday Season, give yourself the gift of self-motivation:

1. Review your reasons for wanting to be healthier.

2. Think about how you felt when you began your new healthy lifestyle. You remember . . . tired, low energy, lots of aches and pains, miserable, embarrassed, etc. and pay close attention to the smallest changes in your body. Think about how far youíve come so far.

3. Challenge yourself . . . the try some new, healthy food options; a new form of exercise; walk farther; run faster; whatever. Just make sure the challenge you set is realistic for you.

4. Set up reminders to keep yourself on track Ė they can be sticky notes taped to your computer monitor, automatic text messages/emails you send yourself, or anything else that will keep your goals front and center in your mind.

5. Surround yourself with others who are positive and motivated.

6. Read success stories or watch them on video.

7. Learn as much as you can about healthy lifestyles. In this case, education CAN be free! There is a ton of good info on this site or in your local library. Knowledge is POWER!

8. Just Get Moving! Once you start, youíll want to keep going.

9. Keep a record of your progress. Seeing concrete evidence of your improvement will motivate you to do even more/better.

10. Help others when you can.

ďGet Off The Scale!

You are beautiful. Your beauty, just like your capacity for life, happiness, and success, is immeasurable. Day after day, countless people across the globe get on a scale in search of validation of beauty and social acceptance.

Get off the scale! I have yet to see a scale that can tell you how enchanting your eyes are. I have yet to see a scale that can show you how wonderful your hair looks when the sun shines its glorious rays on it. I have yet to see a scale that can thank you for your compassion, sense of humor, and contagious smile. Get off the scale because I have yet to see one that can admire you for your perseverance when challenged in life.

Itís true, the scale can only give you a numerical reflection of your relationship with gravity. Thatís it. It cannot measure beauty, talent, purpose, life force, possibility, strength, or love. Donít give the scale more power than it has earned. Take note of the number, then get off the scale and live your life. You are beautiful!Ē
