Hey, It is hard for me to say which is better . I will run a 5k with no walk breaks in about 30 min. I ran a 15k with walk breaks at a 10:1 ratio , 10 minutes run 1 min walk . For longer races , you have to have a strategy . My strategy during my HM was to survive . This time , I want to succeed . Therefore I am training based on the 10:1 . Also , I use a Garmin to monitor my pace and HR . Don't know if this helps, but so far it works for me. 2504 days ago
PJ, Yes , I have run a HM , Cincinnati Flying Pig in May 2009, I did not train enough for this year and ran in the 5k instead. I recently signed up for the USAF HM , in September. My thought process is that once I have committed the $ for the entry fee, I am more likely to train in advance. Let me know what you decide to do and we can check in with each other. 2506 days ago
It was great wasn't it?! Even though it was hot as all get out! I was 1:55:54 so it wouldn't surprise me if we ran pretty close to each other during the race. I couldn't believe the size of the crowd...it was amazing. I loved the fact that there were all skill levels and shapes and sizes of runners.
Miles 2 -3 were killers for me. All that was going through my mind was "What were you thinking?! Do you really think you can make 7 more miles?!" Then I found my grove and didn't struggle until mile 7 -8. The last couple of miles flew by with the crowds cheering.
