Once, in another life, (The past is another country, they do things differently there) I was a teacher of History and English. Now I'm retired and finding time galloping along.
Interests: history, pets, genealogy, reading and now, after the earthquakes, geology! And, of course, maintaining the progress I have made towards a healthy lifestyle and weight. I have found various challenges help in this: at the moment I am commited to the 5%SPRING (AUTUMN FOR ME!)CHALLENGE and I am hoping to join the BL challenge community within the next few months.
MY COMMITMENT TO THE 5% CHALLENGE:
To start with I will complete all the preliminary tasks, one of which is putting this commitment on my page.
I will exercise for a minimum of 10 minutes each day of the challenge. This means that I will do a daily walk, my 2 X week hourly osteoporosis class, and my osteoporosis homework, including stretching. I will also fit in some DVD work.
I will follow the eat to live plan (Dr Fuhrman) and keep as close as possible to its basic tenets. So that will be generous servings of leafy greens and other vegetables (GBOMBS) and smaller servings of nuts and seeds.
I will participate in my Team by being honest and diligent about recording and posting my exercise and LTGL points as well as my weekly weight.
I have been asked to be an extra leader on my team so will friend as many new members a possible and try to support them with comments and goodies. I will be prepared to take on tasks if any leader has an emergency and can't complete her role.

More than year on from joining SparkPeople I need to deal with different issues from those associated with weight loss. Now it's how to stay at a healthy and realistic weight, how to avoid the dreaded Kilo Creep! As ever, SP and SFs are an encouragement and support - I just have to act on it!

My Goals:
To maintain my current weight range and healthy lifestyle.
To be as energetic and generally healthier as I can at my age so that I can enjoy my retirement for many years and to the full.
To become a tough old lady!

My Program:
I'm following SP guidelines: I am tracking food less diligently than before because I find it difficult to do on the Eat to Live programme. So I am working on entering recipes that I will be able to use for this. I track exercise daily. Above all, I am still working on changing behaviour patterns. Without changes in the latter I don't think I would sustain progress in the others.

Personal Information:
Living in New Zealand, so the seasons are usually different on the challenges.
Married to a Kiwi-Australian who is managing Type 2 diabetes.
Kept busy with husband, 3 cats, canary, gardening, reading, SP, genealogy, word games, puzzles. I used to knit and crochet and would like to find time to pick them up again.

Other Information:
When you're in a hole, stop digging.

If hunger is not the problem, then eating is not the solution

Enough's as good as a feast.
Change is not always progress.

Hi! Just thought I'd stop by to see how you were doing. I hope everything is going well for you.

The spring 5% is off to a fairly good start for me. I reached a healthy (barely) BMI on last weigh in.

Have a great week and challenge! Cheers!

emoticon Penny!! Let's put the UMPH in triumph to meet our weekly goals! Put the UMPH in triumph by bringing fun and enjoyment into our journey! Put the UMPH in triumph to go out and live our lives as we have imagined it! With enough UMPH, we CAN and WILL have a WOOHOO week!
