I've Lost 126 Pounds - And I Don't Want Them Back!!

In September of 2008 I had a life changing experience. I chose to have the RNY Gastric Bypass Surgery and it was the best decision I've ever made for myself.

I have severe osteo-arthritis in both of my knees and pre-op just an outing to Costco was a painful experience for me. I took pain meds daily, as well as regular cortisone shots in my knees. I also had high blood pressure and was on medication for that as well. I couldn't walk a mile and my weight was going up and up ...

I couldn't walk a mile and my weight was going up and up and up.

My orthopedic surgeon told me that if I didn't lose 100 pounds quickly, I would be looking at knee replacement surgery before I was 50. I decided to explore Gastric Bypass with my primary care physician and she referred me to the surgery program. I was accepted right away and about 9 months later my life changed.

Today I'm living a completely different life. Surgery helped me get to a point where I didn't feel like it was hopeless. After 20+ years of failed dieting attempts, my faith in myself had diminished to nothing. Now I'm going to the gym 5-6 days a week, eating healthy foods and shopping my little heart out!! My highest priority is to never forget where I came from and how hard I've had to work to get to where I am now. No more pain meds, no more injections, my high blood pressure is gone, and Costco is just one stop on my list, not the only outing I can handle!

I've made a promise to take better care of me, to love myself enough to put me first, and because I'm learning to love myself, I'm so much happier in everything I do!

My Goals:
My goal weight is 150. That would give me a normal BMI and should be a weight I can maintain. I want to be healthy, and I know that MODERATION is the key.

My Program:
I believe in the "everything in moderation" philosophy and so have not designated any foods as "no-no's". I do focus on healthy foods and keep most of the bad carbs and refined/processed foods out of my diet. I'm also very careful about sugar/sweets as they are my weakness and so as I rule I do not keep them in the house but do occasionally enjoy a small treat. I go to the gym and walk 5 days a week.

Personal Information:
I live in Northern California. Happily married to a great guy and we have two grandkids (so far)! We are now empty-nesters (except for the fur-baby) and totally enjoying having the house to ourselves, although we do have family dinners quite often! I have two kids getting married next year (April and July) so lots of wedding planning going on right now! I'm so glad I will be looking great for those photos! Yay!!
