Mission: Dream Body

I lost 30lbs with SparkPeople back in 2009, and maintained for a while. I got serious about fitness, and learned all sorts of things. Then I went from a warehouse job to a desk job, herniated a disk, and gained too much weight from inactivity. This is me doing it all over again. I'm also planning a wedding for next year, so that gave me a swift kick in the pants to lose this weight!

If you need a SparkBuddy, feel free to add/message me :)

Some things I have learned along the way:

* Weight loss is a mind game. You have to know exactly what your boundaries are and stick to them no matter what.

* Once you're at goal weight, there's a LOT more work to be done. You won't look like you think you will in a bikini. You'll still have all the pockets of fat, but less of it. It takes a while to tone and even out, be patient! Don't stop working out just because you hit goal weight.

* While you're maintaining, it's very hard to change your mind frame from "No, I can't eat that" to "Yes, I need to get my calories in." This doesn't mean eat junk, it means eating more calories in healthy foods. Add some eggs to your burgers, add a little butter to your sandwiches, put a little coconut oil in your smoothies, etc.

* Know your body. If something doesn't agree with you, don't eat it. Even if it's on the food pyramid, and labeled "healthy" for you. It will cause you much more problems down the road. It's your body, not whoever it was that decided this or that food is healthy for you. Every body has different chemistry.

* Enjoy your workouts. Find something you find fun to do. If you don't enjoy it, chances are great that you won't continue after reaching your initial goals.

* You don't have to have a gym membership. Yes, ellipticals are great, and weight machines are handy. There are a lot of exercises that you can benefit more from that use your own body weight. There are also great workout videos out there. Do some research and find what works for other people.

*I focused more on strength training, rather than cardio, because I hated cardio with a passion. For that reason, my flab never went away. The easiest way to get rid of it is cardio cardio cardio!

* LOVE YOURSELF. Embrace who you are and run with it. You have one life, make it healthy and happy!

Hi, I am WAY behind checking my spark page! Thanks for the comment. I login every day multiple times a day to track food and exercise but hardly ever check my page :) Yes, I am coming to LOVE yoga! I never thought I would say that. I get monthly XXdeep massages and the changes my therapist can feel are undeniable. My lower back used to be hard as a brick..still is very tight...but the yoga has helped tremendously! My work has started offering it 2 days a week. I'm hooked! :) I would recommend it for anyone with pain and/or sits at a desk all day like me!

Thanks for the blog post. Glad to hear I'm not the only daily weigher out there!

RE: DietBet - you should check it out! www.dietbetter.com
The DietBet I'm in right now (THE SCALE IS TOO DAMN HIGH) is a 4 week challenge to lose 4% of your weight. You put in $35 to a pot of money and all of the winners at the end of the 4 weeks get to split the money.

Oh I hear you on the prep of salads, it can be a right pain washing and chopping it all! I get sick of it myself sometimes and on those days I go for the easy stuff like just shoving a couple sweet potatoes in the oven or steaming some peas in 10 mins flat emoticon

Thanks for the support on my blog too. Good luck on the veggie quest! emoticon

We're having about 175-200 I think (eek!). Both my fiance and I have very large families, so the guest list added up fast. How many are you having?

Yeah, I tend to knit in spurts too. Ick, carpal tunnel, huh? Let me guess, desk job? I'm sure I'll be running into similar issues in a few years, so I'm enjoying it while I can.

Dawww, chickens in sweaters?! That's adorable! Such a bummer they couldn't handle them. emoticon Did they have wing holes and all or were they like a cape?
