2015 . . . The Year of Quality!

"In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years." -- Abraham Lincoln

For me, 2015 will be the Year of Quality. I don't want to "do it all" -- just the best stuff! I won't spread myself thin going to every party -- just the ones I really want to attend. I won't buy every shiny trinket that catches my eye -- just the ones I know will really make an impact. I won't eat every single cookie that crosses my path -- just the ones I know will be ...

For me, 2015 will be the Year of Quality. I don't want to "do it all" -- just the best stuff! I won't spread myself thin going to every party -- just the ones I really want to attend. I won't buy every shiny trinket that catches my eye -- just the ones I know will really make an impact. I won't eat every single cookie that crosses my path -- just the ones I know will be worth it. I want to actually have fewer things and experiences in 2015 -- so I can really focus on the ones that make me happy.

I'm determined. I'm ferocious. I'm ready to keep banging my head against the wall until I figure out what will work for me. I see now that it isn't enough to lose weight -- it has to be sustainable, you have to be able to keep it off. There is no magic recipe -- the formula for success is constantly changing. And I am determined to keep up.

Thanks for checking on me! Yes, of my 44 years on the planet thus far, 2014 was the worst - the good news is it is over and I have made a lot of positive changes in my life that have improved it, although most of them did not surround diet and exercise. So...yes, regain. Blech - but it must be dealt with! I have 30 lbs of regain to get rid of, and at least I know I can do it. Honestly, after the past year and a half I am proud that is all I did. 10 lbs went on in the past two month (the rest was gradual creep) though so I know I need to put a leash on it. Hopefully easy on, easy off -but we will see. Lots going on in life - will try to do a quick catch up blog.

Hi there! I listen to the podcasts over there, but I haven't joined the community. I also really like the focus on maintenance since that's something I feel very strongly about and is why I got involved on the maintenance team here on SparkPeople. I know that a lot of people are resistant to the idea of even thinking about maintenance when they feel like it's such a distant goal for them, but I really feel like I could have saved myself a lot of heartache if I had taken a longer approach in my previous weight-loss efforts (I yo-yo'd for many years, once losing and regaining 115 pounds!).

I really like the approach Half Size Me advocates and think it's an important message. When I think of all the years I wasted following super-restrictive diets and sometimes practically starving myself only to end up bingeing, it breaks my heart. So much wasted time! I wanted so badly to lose weight, I just didn't know how to do it in a healthy and sane way. I'm so glad messages like this are starting to get out there more and more. For me, it's a breath of fresh air after being bombarded with so many messages about diets that are often nothing more than gimmicks with promises of a quick fix. I absolutely know that one size does not fit all in this process, but it kills me to see what people sometimes put themselves through in their desperation to try to lose weight, mostly because I've been there.
