After four years on SparkPeople, I have made some noteworthy self-discoveries. This is the first time I have ever made a lasting commitment to exercise regularly, made a deliberate decision and consistent effort to lose weight, and believed myself capable of reaching my goals. At the end of the day, the degree of your mental fortitude is the determining factor in your success. Whatever your situation that is something you have the power to control!

Fall does seem like an especially good time to start things and instigate new ideas. This will be my first winter in the mountains so I'm anxious to see how I will do on exercise. Of course I can always turn fast music on the TV and dance around like a fool. Maybe have a glass of wine. emoticon

Thanks for your comment on my blog.

I really don't cook from recipes. All my meals have 3 basic ingredients; 4-6 oz protein, 1/2-1 cup low-carb veggies, 4 red bell pepper strips & 2 green onions. Then I just add 1-2 cups of water and salt to make the soup.

You can see the exact measurements on my food tracker if you would like ingredient ideas. I like to keep my food very plain and simple.

HI PROT!!!

Hey I'm sorry for not responding sooner to your comments on my spark page, but the truth is I've been kind of down and frustrated with the continuing problems regarding my knee and heel pain... It's kept me from going out on the road for quite a while now, and it just irks the heck outta me... I can still play racquetball though which is a definite blessing. Just want to congratulate you on reaching the 130 lb. level, so what's next? 120 lbs? I know you can do it, you are so much more confident now than you were when we first friended on Spark People...

As for reading books, well I am not as prolific a reader as you are, but this is what I've been reading in the last couple of months: Gods & Generals by Jeff Shaara - Unbroken and Seabiscuit by Laura Hillenbrand - Homer's Iliad and Odyssey - The Saxson Tales Series (7 books) by Bernard Cornwell - The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield - The Hobbit/Fellowship of the Ring/Two Towers/Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien - Old Man's War by John Scalzi - and Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton.

You know, if you get the opportunity, can you find the time perhaps and get a copy of The Thirteenth Tale, read it and then get back to me and let me know what you think of the story? I'd like your take on it. If you've already read it, please tell me what you thought of the book... I also suggest picking up Unbroken... It's the true life story of Louis Zamperini which I'm sure you'll enjoy....

Well that's about it, hope you're enjoying your summer, hope you're getting outdoors and marveling at God's creation all about you!

Oh... I DID go out this morning too, walked out 2 miles and jogged back. Still some pain, but the heel wasn't too bad... the doc wants me to lay off of the walking and running, but stupid/stubborn me, just gotta go and do it...

Be well Prot, God bless, talk to you soon,

Ted emoticon emoticon

Thank you! I'm back to lose the 15 lbs I gained back since October. I became a sugar carb addict again.

I've been down this lose/gain weight road so many times, I know it's a part of long-term maintenance. But it sure gets old... and the weight jumps back on fast.
