Provincetown Dream

HI, I'm baaccckkkk! Hibernated from the heat all summer; too hot to even go over to the pool in my apartment complex! Will be resuming my walk to P'town in October. After my job ended in March I made the decision to semi-retire ( real retirement 4/14). Am currently a substitute teacher and assessor for the Boston Public School system's adult education component. After my job ended in March I made the decision to semi-retire ( real retirement 4/14). Am currently a substitute teacher and assessor for the Boston Public School system's adult education component. Gearing up to get back out on the road by re-entering training, health and wellness mode. (After trying to beat the heat all summer with ice cream!) I look forward to jumping back into the SPARKPEOPLE pool.

64 year old "Gramma" still feels 30 inside! I work full-time as a GED language arts instructor teaching inner-city young people. My health has been up and down throughout the years. I'm a sugar junkie and would like to restructure my eating habits from 80% unhealthy, 20% healthy to 80% healthy and 20% unhealthy. To celebrate my 65th birthday next year I am training to walk from Boston to Provincetown, MA (about 120 miles (for my 50th I walked a marathon). I'm looking forward to Sparkpeople's support and motivation.

You certainly may! I will add you too.

Now about sugar. I got a diagnosis on March 20 this year of diabetes 2. It scared me half to death. That very day I decided to give up all white foods, Dr. directions, which included sugar. I started reading more about what it does to a body, and from that day to now, I have not had any sugar or it's counterparts. And I have never had the success with weight loss as I have had on this journey. My Dr. even mentioned not having that luxurious dessert can probably mess with me. And I said "NOPE" I have had no cravings since I quit the stuff, it almost reminds me of an addiction, like a serious one. Just to think what it was actually doing to me. It's not as hard as people would think to drop it from one's food intake. Especially when you have a life threatening disease hanging over your head. I cannot believe that more people don't take this disease more seriously? I think we can look at less overweight people, that would drop this from their grocery list. And we would not be labeled the "fat Americans"

And to add, I was to sugar like alcohol is to an alcoholic. So if I can do it, anybody can. MJ (that ingredient is in almost everything, I would say at least 80%)
