Losing Against the Odds
I want to get back to where I was, in terms of weight and fitness, before my thyroid disease manifested itself. There is an article on Spark that says people with my kind of thyroid disease will probably never get back to their pre-disease weight. I am going to prove them wrong! I am not looking to be thin, but I would like to be healthier and get rid of some of my abdominal fat. Losing weight is an uphill battle for me. Eating right and exercising are easy, but the weight loss is slow. I drastically changed my lifestyle in June 2006, becoming more active, but I have seen better results with SparkPeople than without. I joined Weight Watchers with my friend Lisa and her daughter on July 1, 2008 and lost five pounds my first week. I stuck with it and as of March, I have lost 59 pounds on the program. Not only am I close the weight that I was before I got sick, I finally made goal. I will always be working at this. I have been on Spark for over three years now and I will probably be on weight watchers for the rest of my life, but I am starting to believe I can beat the odds.

My Goals:
I want to be the person my dogs think I am.
My Program:
I used to be a Sugar Busters guru, but I started Weight Watchers on July 1, 2008. I have been exercising regularly for a few years. I regularly take yoga and bellydance classes, plus I workout with fitness videos.
Personal Information:
I discovered Anusara Yoga when I took my first bellydance class in 2006. Soon I was at the studio three to five times a week, taking classes with a variety of instructors. What started as a mission to regain my health and vitality became a journey of the heart, complete with tears and laughter. Somehow, I had never fully experienced a true yoga practice before discovering Anusara. I like to say that what I before was “just exercise.” I found that while my poses lacked physical perfection, I had actually made a spiritual connection in my practice which helped me make peace with my body. I quickly learned to make modifications and honor my own flexibility and stamina. Each day I discover more about myself, my abilities and my practice. It was a very emotional process for me, because the poses were so much harder to access than they had been in the past, which forced me to do them with tremendous intention and attention. Anusara Yoga changed my life.
Other Information:
I have Hashimoto's Auto-immune Thyroiditis, a specific type of hypothyroidism. I switched from Synthroid to Armour Thyroid in late 2006. I plan to never go back. I tried taking the medication sublingually and found that it did not work for me.
