Greetings - Lee here. Welcome to a Transplanted Floridian's Life in Northern Virginia (NoVA) SparkPage.

My weight loss journey from nearly 300 pounds / 136 kilos began simply by modifying my diet and walking (as if it were simple for me back then - ha!)

For me, my focus in all of this is to be connected with the moment. The past, and the future, exists only in the imagination. I refuse to look back over my life and live with regret. Really, what good ever comes ...

My weight loss journey from nearly 300 pounds / 136 kilos began simply by modifying my diet and walking (as if it were simple for me back then - ha!)

For me, my focus in all of this is to be connected with the moment. The past, and the future, exists only in the imagination. I refuse to look back over my life and live with regret. Really, what good ever comes from that? My guiding philosophy is to possess a Right View, Right Resolve, Right Speech, Right Action, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, Right Mindfulness, and Right Concentration.

I am very eclectic when it comes to my approach to fitness. I enjoy strength training. I like the immediate results. I also incorporate Plyometrics to jazz things up a bit. Boot camp / circuit training corporate work outs are also favorites. I enjoy YogaFit because my practice is ever evolving and it quiets my mind while exercising my body. And trust me, I have an extremely active mind that needs to be quieted! Choreographed aerobic classes aren't my thing - so, Zumba is out right and I leave all the gyrations to you and Elvis.

I'm originally from Venice, Florida; but I live and work just outside the District of Columbia in Northern Virginia (aka of NoVA.) I love American Football, Footie, Rugby, and Hockey. Although I have never stepped foot in the beautiful state of Wisconsin, I have always viewed myself as a - Cheesehead Trapped in a Florida Reality. Go Pack! Go!

My Goals:
My RTB-R program is to initially document what a forty pound weight loss looks like. After Spiral 1 is completed, I will continue pressing with Spiral 2. I blog what I eat, what I do, and how I feel on a near daily basis.

My Program:
Two Spirals:

1st - "Fatty's Gotta Lose 40 Pounds"

2nd - "To Shredfinity and Beyond!"

Using P90X for Phases 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Using GSP Rush Fit for Phases 5 and 6

Using Insanity for Phases 7 and 8

I will also be supplementing my in home gym workout regimen with walking, hiking, jogging, and biking.

hi mate...I'm back on the spark thingy...it worked for me before and its working again after a silly relapse due to nothing more than losing focus.
Anyway, I'm feeling energised and the kilograms are going steadily.
You look fantastic in the photos...hope things are going well for you...I often think of you, especially with the tough economy over there...
Hope you and Patty will have a holiday down under one day!

Hey Lee,
weight lifting...out of interest when I was losing weight last time (lost four stone) I used the same lifting routine. At the end of the weight loss I tried to calculate how much muscle I put on after six months lifting with a calorie deficit using bodyfat measurements. The bad news is that I think I put on between 2-5 pounds of muscle (hard to be accurate) at most over six months. My diet meant I never successfully bulked up during the diet.

My strength did go up about 30% (form more than anything I think) and my body shape was good. I speculate that I lost muscle I wasn't using and simply kept most of the muscle I had.. Some research indicates that on a good weight loss program with no exercise/ST you lose a pound of muscle for every four pounds of fat. Problem is that muscle is hard to grow...:( SO I always wanted to keep as much as possible.

I think redshoes came to more or less the same conclusion..

The other thing that tends to happen is that cardio can slow muscle growh but of course cardio can't be left out at this stage....

Ah, St. Patty's day. I dislike corned beef and cabbage. Not good food an Irish girl. But I remember my father for his telling all the stop to turn Irish and the beer, Not many good memories there. I reconciled with him before he passed on, that was great! Sorry to turn this all out now but it did it good to get in out. For that I thank you, emoticon

Thanks for a lovely comment and advice you left on my blog. I love Quinoa and i am using it along with millet, rice and oats to replace wheat. It does taste wonderful and it can be used for breakfast as well.
