I am in my sixth year of living a healthy life style!! I celebrated my fifth year anniversary with SparkPeople February 12, 2016. I reached my goal weight on 2/7/12 - almost a year to the day I joined SparkPeople!! Sometimes my weight goes up a little bit, but I manage to drop it back down and maintain with different challenges on the SparkPeople web site, the support of my SparkBuddies as well as future physical goals. I started off with walking. If you would have told me three years ago that I would have run a 5k, I would have never believed it! As of today, I have run 5ks, 10k's, 3 ten milers, and 5 Half Marathons! Funny how fast one's perspective can change...even for us middle-aged people! Even though I have conquered all of the above, I am faced with an even bigger "challenge". I lost my 26 year old son last November to Anorexia Nervosa. I am in the first year of my grieving process and it is very difficult. I need to stay healthy, but, it is not the first thing on my mind. And, since he passed away from counting calories, weighing himself on the scale 3 times per day, and eating halves of everything - it has been a real mental challenge for me. My favorite quotes... All you can change is yourself, but sometimes that changes everything!Gary W. Goldstein Goals are dreams with deadlines. ---Diana Scharf Hunt Take care of your body. Its the only place you have to live. - Jim Rohn What you are doing is not nearly as important as how you feel about what you are doing. - Unknown There'll be two dates on your tombstone. And all your friends will read 'em. But all that's gonna matter is that little dash between 'em. - Kevin Welch All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them. Walt Disney Accomplishment only takes place when you actively participate with your intentions. Therefore, fully commit to participate in the dreams of your choice and do so against all the risks confronting you.Guru Singh No Matter How You Feel, Get Up, Dress Up, Show Up, and Never Give Up - Unknown

I have read a caution about red yeast rice. I have to read in light of chronic kidney disease.

The studies on cholesterol are wrong. Most doctors use that to warn against eating low carb high fat. This way of eating brings a person's weight down and corrects diabetes in many people that are Type 2. Generally, what I see, is that Type 2 diabetics use their medications and continue to eat sweets and don't monitor portions, depending on the medication, as an enabler to eat high sugar desserts and too much food. I am not saying that all diabetics do this, but many of them do. The disease progresses and the dosages and medications go up.

There are even studies of people with plaque in the carotid arteries that have been helped by eating this way. My mother and sister both had to have the carotid artery surgery. My sister eats no salt and buys unsalted canned foods.

I have to ask myself why I am expected to ingest and inject medicine based on a doctor's education and medical training, but they will not look at any studies refuting what they were taught. It is my body that has to go through the side effects and I always thought we were supposed to be a team to work toward better health. I have found this not to be true.

I see that the place where I printed off many things is no longer in existence. I have printed off statins associated with a 101% increase in diabetes, statins associated with a 75% increased risk of death in patients with lung disease, statins toxic side effects by Dr. Rajendra Sharma, Doctor says statins may be over prescribed five to six fold when using the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association faulty risk calculator, statins significantly reduce dolichol levels, statin use might increase the risk of age-related macular degeneration, low cholesterol associated with dissociative disorders.

I still am taking a statin pill nightly, but there are times I just feel like quitting all medications and letting my body alone. After vomiting most of the day in the hospital. All of my levels were good, but my blood glucose was still elevated, but had dropped from 232 to 161. The night nurse told me, if it had been 201 or higher when I came to the hospital room for the night, I would have had to take an insulin shot.

I asked my old doctor, if I have insulin resistance, then how will insulin help? She didn't like the question. I had shown a weight loss and blood glucose decrease on this way of eating. Now I feel my weight is affected by all of this stuff in my system, though it has come down from my weight in the hospital of 242 pounds. I really feel a lot of prescriptions are given to protect doctors from lawsuits. I would gladly sign off on that, if I could just quit the meds.

My Mom was on 14 pills and had to go to Johns Hopkins many times for heart caths and angioplasty. They wanted to do bypass surgery, but she never gave her consent to that. She just up and quit taking her pills. When she was in the nursing home, she was on three pills daily morning and evening and a medicine she inhaled. She did have a stroke and recovered the usage of her arms and legs, but had periods where she would just cease from talking and moving and stare straight ahead. You could act like you were going to poke her in the eyes, but there was no response. She would recover and then begin to move and talk again, but these "spells" came frequently.

I don't know what is ahead for me as far as my health goes, but I feel like my body is being slowly poisoned by drug interactions. We told our kids to get us plane tickets to Alaska where we would choose to let polar bears eat us and be done with life. I saw the neglect that Mom went through. There was a nursing home here that is under litigation for dumping residents that couldn't pay. Imagine, if you will, that you are aged and alone, with no one advocating for your treatment, and trying to fight the battle against a place that is supposed to take care of you. When the 100 days that is paid for by the government is over, they look for someone that can fill your space and put you out.

Awesome on the house! DH has property shared with his brother on the east coast near Daytona and have been looking to either sell, trade or build on it. I prefer whiter sands and nicer beaches!

The doctor's business card had three numbers on it. We have a directory here of all the local doctors. She had the same number in it that was a recording where I had left a message about my medications and asked her to return my call. The third one was the hospital and they plugged me into another number and she picked up.

If I would have needed more of those prescription in four days, I would have needed her to write them.

I will be done with the one prescription to dilate my ureters and can go back on my old blood pressure medicine Monday, be the Lord Willing.

Sadly, it is my primary care doctor that threw a fit when I wanted to go off of statins, cholesterol medicine. I will have high cholesterol because I am eating low carb high fat. The statins have side effects. I couldn't go to the site where I copied the report from. It claims that they can cause macular degeneration. My primary care doctor told me when my lab results come back, if they are good, then we can talk about going off of medicines. He knows very well what will happen, even Dr. Westman said that cholesterol tests will show an increase.
