I am in my sixth year of living a healthy life style!! I celebrated my fifth year anniversary with SparkPeople February 12, 2016. I reached my goal weight on 2/7/12 - almost a year to the day I joined SparkPeople!! Sometimes my weight goes up a little bit, but I manage to drop it back down and maintain with different challenges on the SparkPeople web site, the support of my SparkBuddies as well as future physical goals. I started off with walking. If you would have told me three years ago that I would have run a 5k, I would have never believed it! As of today, I have run 5ks, 10k's, 3 ten milers, and 5 Half Marathons! Funny how fast one's perspective can change...even for us middle-aged people! Even though I have conquered all of the above, I am faced with an even bigger "challenge". I lost my 26 year old son last November to Anorexia Nervosa. I am in the first year of my grieving process and it is very difficult. I need to stay healthy, but, it is not the first thing on my mind. And, since he passed away from counting calories, weighing himself on the scale 3 times per day, and eating halves of everything - it has been a real mental challenge for me. My favorite quotes... All you can change is yourself, but sometimes that changes everything!Gary W. Goldstein Goals are dreams with deadlines. ---Diana Scharf Hunt Take care of your body. Its the only place you have to live. - Jim Rohn What you are doing is not nearly as important as how you feel about what you are doing. - Unknown There'll be two dates on your tombstone. And all your friends will read 'em. But all that's gonna matter is that little dash between 'em. - Kevin Welch All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them. Walt Disney Accomplishment only takes place when you actively participate with your intentions. Therefore, fully commit to participate in the dreams of your choice and do so against all the risks confronting you.Guru Singh No Matter How You Feel, Get Up, Dress Up, Show Up, and Never Give Up - Unknown

My parents made me wear a life preserver when I was younger. If I went swimming or went out in my boat by myself to fish, I wore one. Mom couldn't swim and Dad was on call 24/7. If there were other swimmers when I went swimming, I didn't have to wear my life preserver. When I went by myself, I was not allowed to go beyond chest deep into the lake and I had to wear the life preserver. It would take too long for anyone to get from the house to the lake if there was someone drowning.

I figure I am playing it safe at my age, even though the water in the pool is 4 feet deep and the same level. With the air conditioner running outside, I doubt anyone would pay attention to yelling and I cannot scream like they do in movies.

Some woman stopped her car when the kid drowned and said something about my Dad being inappropriate for going into the water in his boxer shorts. He got angry and blasted her with his words. Stupid woman!

The boys grandmother ran a tavern and had some sort of beef with my Dad, something he said he never had anything to do with. He had wanted to buy a small parcel of ground from her, but she wouldn't sell it. She sold it to him after she saw that he tried to save her grandson and ended up being good friends with our family.

Yes, after that, I always thought about drowning if I wasn't careful. It was such a tragedy.

I can't wait for Friday so I have an official number. The scale said 231 something pounds today, up from 222 yesterday. I don't let that bother me. I will keep doing what I am doing. There are too many people using this way of eating with all sorts of health problems, reporting good results.

Dr. Westman tries to get people off of medicine. instead of prescribing a pill for every ailment.
