I am in my sixth year of living a healthy life style!! I celebrated my fifth year anniversary with SparkPeople February 12, 2016. I reached my goal weight on 2/7/12 - almost a year to the day I joined SparkPeople!! Sometimes my weight goes up a little bit, but I manage to drop it back down and maintain with different challenges on the SparkPeople web site, the support of my SparkBuddies as well as future physical goals. I started off with walking. If you would have told me three years ago that I would have run a 5k, I would have never believed it! As of today, I have run 5ks, 10k's, 3 ten milers, and 5 Half Marathons! Funny how fast one's perspective can change...even for us middle-aged people! Even though I have conquered all of the above, I am faced with an even bigger "challenge". I lost my 26 year old son last November to Anorexia Nervosa. I am in the first year of my grieving process and it is very difficult. I need to stay healthy, but, it is not the first thing on my mind. And, since he passed away from counting calories, weighing himself on the scale 3 times per day, and eating halves of everything - it has been a real mental challenge for me. My Goals:
To complete the Philly Broad Street 10 miler and 2 half marathons during the 2016 season.

To run a Half Marathon under 2 hours.

To run a 5k in under 26.24.

To run the Main Street Miler 2016 in under 8.38 mph.


My Program:
I am a Pescetarian.

I run 3 days per week.

I practice yoga.

I walk 2 miles per day with my dog, Roxy - weather permitting!!



Personal Information:
I have been married for 28 years. I have two sons (one is in Heaven) and 2 beautiful little Boston Terriers named "Roxy" and "Mayzie. Having dogs who love to walk is such a great gift...they get me out everyday. All I have to do is look at those big brown eyes and I am out the door!!

    Hubby is not on board with my way of eating. I did ask him to hide his potato chips and Little Debbie snack cakes in a cooler in a walk-in closet in the guest bedroom. He bought a bunch of Mrs, Smith's pumpkin pies recently. I cheated and ate pie. It raised my blood glucose to over 200. It takes days to get it back down.

    He wanted to drop me off at the seminar and come back to pick me up. Because he can eat whatever he wants, he really doesn't want to be bothered about what I am doing. He does fix salad for me by washing it in a salad spinner. He likes bacon, that's a plus, because bacon is a fat that I can have. I just have to check the package for sugar.

    I go back to the kidney doctor in June. I want to get my blood glucose lower. I am hoping that God will use this way of eating to help me to lose weight and to get my A1C-an average of my blood glucose for 3 months, down.

    There was testimony after testimony at the seminar, and many with tears, of how this way of eating has helped those that could not find any other way to improve their health options. The medical community in some places, is starting to wake up to the low carb high fat ketogenic way of eating.

    Dr. Westman has been on the cover of Woman's World magazine. Yet, he is humble enough to talk with individuals at seminars and not get paid for the answers he gives to their questions. I have lost 50 pounds since 2010, but I lose much quicker while eating my fill on this way of eating. That does not mean I can eat all that I want from the food lists, but there is a ratio that I am to follow and I feel satiated.

    I am sure that any employer would grant time off to take care of a parent going through surgery. If not, then you probably would have trouble working for them.
