Staying Focused!!

I am in my fourth year of living a healthy life style!!
I celebrated my three year anniversary with SparkPeople February 12, 2014. I reached my goal weight on 2/7/12 - almost a year to the day I joined SparkPeople!! Sometimes my weight goes up a little bit, but I manage to drop it back down and maintain with different challenges on the SparkPeople web site, the support of my SparkBuddies as well as future physical goals.

I started off with walking. If you would have told me three years ago that I would have run a 5k, I would have never believed it!

As of today, I have run 5ks, 10k's, 2 ten milers, and 5 Half Marathons! Funny how fast one's perspective can change...even for us middle-aged people!

The biggest things that stand out to me are my energy level and my confidence to try new physical activities.

I have eaten a lot healthier over the past three years. I love the food and fitness tracker app on my iphone. It helps me to stay consistent and on track.

Yes, my husband will sit on the pool deck while I swim. It was stormy when he came home last night. They tell you if you can hear thunder, you can be struck by lightening and I take heed to that.

78 degrees takes some getting used too at my age. It is doable and I swam in colder temperatures when I was younger.

Just make sure you have plenty of food and you won't have any complaints at your son's going away party. When I left, there were "Uncle Sam wants you" and American Eagle decorations. I got a Samsonite suitcase as a gift and took the Uncle Sam cardboards and pasted one on each side of my suitcase. I never had any trouble locating my suitcase when I was at an airport.

I am sure all will go well, just remember, "Nobody eats until the cook says the food is ready." Don't get overwhelmed, you are in charge.

I don't know that exercise is never pretty, unless you are showered and dressed to impress the opposite sex. A friend of mine posted this on Face Book. It's funny.

Now you are running like I used to. I wasn't getting ready for a race, it was one of my modes of getting from one place to another and my bicycle was the other. I hated to drive a car and could only use the car to take Mom grocery shopping and to get our mail which was in another town because there were two other men with my Dad's name and two other girls with my sister's name. The difference was the middle name.

I stayed fit then, but I could do distance and turn on the speed if I needed to. Now my abdomen flops and makes a hideous noise when I run.
