Chas' Info

An established master's runner in my late 40s and early fifties, I found myself challenged with severe pain in both legs several years ago. So I cut down on my mileage and quit racing. My last race was a 5K the Hendersonville Classic in 2011. Two years went by with numerous doctors visits. They all started saying the same thing. Your cartilage around your hip joints are minimal. One hip replacement (hip re-surfacing in July 2013) later, and I'm ready to push myself again. Long-distance ...
Long-distance running is part of who I am but I'll have to stay with short races now, my new norm. I've gained 25 pounds since 2011. I joined Sparkspeople to track weight and calories in 2007. Now, once again I'm back in 2014 as I believe an essential part of running fast is in managing one's weight. I'm staying with my username, as almost every morning run and sometimes in the evening, I'm truly running with deer.
My current goals are:

improving my speed for the local 5k and to encourage friends and other runners along the way!

Thanks for the love! It's been busy busy with the conference. Just got back in town Wednesday afternoon, then had 6 hours of class Wed night, work and class yesterday, and work today. Babysitting an infant and trying to finish up a research proposal this weekend. GAH! So it was nice, in the midst of all my conference craziness, to see your gift. And nice again today to be reminded. Have a great day!

Thanks for the comment on my blog. I do hope to bust through this plateau. I have been adding sprints to the end of my runs twice a week on my shorter runs. 6-8 intervals at 30 seconds each. Its something I have added the last two weeks, so we shall see if there is any changes. :-) Enjoy your friday and have a nice weekend! Stay WARM!

Wow! What a statement you will make when you finally line up to race in the Octoberfest. That is real focus and determination to train for a single race for over a year.

That emoticon sure with taste good!

Good Luck with your running. It is all about getting to the starting line sometimes, isn't it?

Thanks for visiting my blog on race picks. I did get dizzy considering all the possible races, and having to eliminate the conflicting ones. Chicago has a great line up of events, but I do not always want to go into the "big" city.

What event are you signed up for in October? When do you start your training?

Well I wanted to give you a goodie but the mobile site won't let me. Anyway, doing well over here. I made it 3 miles with no injury pains in my calf so that's progress from last week! Aside from that, just the usual! Work, internship, kiddo. You?
