My last race was a 5K the Hendersonville Classic in 2011. Two years went by with numerous doctors visits. They all started saying the same thing. Your cartilage around your hip joints are minimal. One hip replacement (hip re-surfacing in July 2013) later, and I'm ready to push myself again. Long-distance running is part of who I am but I'll have to stay with short races now, my new norm. I've gained 25 pounds since 2011. I joined Sparkspeople to track weight and calories in 2007. Now, once again I'm back in 2014 as I believe an essential part of running fast is in managing one's weight. I'm staying with my username, as almost every morning run and sometimes in the evening, I'm truly running with deer.
My current goals are:

improving my speed for the local 5k and to encourage friends and other runners along the way!

Thanks for the comment on my blog about signing up for another half marathon. I did decide to do it, and will register on Friday. I have tried to recruit a couple of friends who are runners to do it also, they are thinking about it. I needed something to focus on to keep me running because I feel myself starting to slack off just a little. I think this is the motivation I need. Thanks again!

Chas, I didn't know you were laid up with an injury! Glad to hear you're on the mend. Your goal 5K time is still within reach, IMO.

Speaking of that, I haven't been running that much recently. Mileage is really low - some weeks, it's been 10 miles total. emoticon There's a 10K coming up in April that I'm *kinda* training for. But that'll be more of a gauge to see how I'm doing, cardio-wise.

I'm still in Japan, and there's the possibility that my hubby, the cat & I will be here for an extra year... When I actually do run (LOL), I've been doing lunchtime runs with a few of the Japanese locals. It's fun, and I'm learning about the local races. I'll need to eventually sign up for one!....
