SALAM4545's Sparkpage Introduction

Hi, my name is Amy. I've been Sparking since January 2014 and I've had some success with weight loss, yes, but just as importantly, I have changed a lot of the things that have led to weight gain. I've found ways to help cope with depression that don't involve eating, I've had the courage to go back to school, and I've gotten rid of some of the negative people influencing me. I have started listening to that little voice inside me that tells me what I need for my life, instead of what I want ...

I have started listening to that little voice inside me that tells me what I need for my life, instead of what I want in the moment. I took some big risks, and I am much healthier (and happier) for it!

Thank-you for commenting on my blog. I tend to get addicted to routine which means I don't handle change very well. Planning ahead is key for me. My first weigh-in day since increasing the intensity of my fitness (and decreasing the amount of time I spend on fitness) will take place on Sept. 30th. I will definitely keep you posted.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by dark history. By "arcane" I really mean "accessible / known to only a few." I study ancient history, focusing almost exclusively on ancient texts. By ancient I mean REALLY ancient. While I do read classical Greek, the Greeks and Romans are too new! Too modern! I study the Levantine side of things (Hebrew, Aramaic, Ugaritic) and the Mesopotamian (Sumerian, Akkadian). My focus is on scribal culture in Babylon and Assyria (modern Iraq). The amazing record of written artefacts spans from the origins of writing in about 3100 BC to the fall of Babylon under Cyrus of Persia (and the aftermath continuing-on well into the Seleucid period). I am specifically interested in intellectual history and in how knowledge is produced by scribal elites. I am also very interested in how Mesopotamian literary / historical texts and traditions influenced the scribes who put together the Hebrew Bible.

Ok, this is way too long and dull. But now you know!

:)

Thank you for stopping by my page last month. I haven't been on here much the last couple months as I have been job hunting, house hunting, helping my best friend who had surgery and now moving. I hope that when we get settled that I can get back to working the program more.

Hope all is well with you.

Thiry

Thanks for the nice comment on my blog. An interviewing workshop "might" help my daughter. It is certainly difficult to know when to push her out of her comfort zone vs. just continuing to praise what she does well. emoticon emoticon
