I've always been on the larger than normal side, but I was always pretty active and fit. But, life experiences from having babies to depression, to the fast paced life of a mom of three has enabled me to make some bad choices and I have gained significant weight. I never really thought about what a problem my weight was until my 14 year old daughter was injured in an accident. At the hospital, the doctor informed me that they would have to Life Flight her out to a larger hospital because she needed to have surgery. When the pilot came in, he informed me that I couldn't go with her because I was too large for the plane. There is no feeling worse than watching your child be taken away to a hospital four hours away, hearing her scream "I want my mom." Then, a few months later, my grandmother, who was suffering with COPD, had taken a turn for the worse and her hospice nurse told me that if I wanted to see her alive one more time, I had better get to Texas. I had no other option but to ride a Greyhound bus there. That was an awful experience. It was hard to get on and off the bus, and it was hard to get down the aisles to the seats. But, the worst came when I finally got to my final destination, while I was de-boarding the bus, I literally got stuck! There are no words to describe the embarrassment that caused. I realized then that I had to do something! Never again would a child of mine be Life Flighted away without me with them and never again would I get stuck on a bus. I joined another diet program and did fairly well on it, until my son's high school graduation came. As the day kept creeping closer and closer, the more I gave in to my emotions and ate like a crazy person. I had RNY gastric bypass on April 9, 2012, and have lost 248 lbs so far. Of course, that is with pre-op and post-op weight loss.
