I found SP while looking for a nutrition calculator. I'd lost 25 pounds without much of an idea about what I was doing. I was amazed and grateful to discover that Sparkpeople is so much more than a calorie tracker.

I know from experience that making small, consistent positive changes snowballs into an avalanche of change. I didn't know that I would need to pay attention to every day if I wanted to hang on to the benefits of those changes. I didn't know that nothing is or can be allowed to be more important than health. Not studying. Not chores. Not even family demands.

But I am learning that now.

Personal Information:
I'm from Seattle Washington and I LOVE to hike. Love, love, love to hike!

Other Information:
I have juvenile diabetes which puts an extra wrinkle into exercise, like checking blood sugar in the middle of a long run and carrying juice and a glucometer everywhere. Oh yes, and occasionally crashing.

I'm midway through nursing school where I am probably the oldest nursing student ever.

I’m not really sure how I learned to do the research! I use both Family Tree Maker and ancestry.com, independently of one another, and when something gets entered wrong in either of them, I google how to correct it. It’s like putting together a puzzle for me. I love the quest, and the awareness of different periods in our history. Three of us in the family have taken the DNA test which has opened another door to connecting with others.

My interest started fifty years ago with a freshman biology class assignment in which we were supposed to make a family tree. At that time, I still had both my folks, two living grandparents, along with one great grandparent, and everyone was so very helpful. One of my great aunts wrote dozens of letters containing her recollections of the family in the early 1900s.
