Quitting a Life in Limbo

I'm 44. I have arthritis and I'm peri-menopausal. I'm an editor, a writer, an aunt, a daughter, and a girlfriend. Life has handed me a lot of lemons in the past few years but I'm ready to start making some lemonade.

I've been living a vegetarian lifestyle since October 23, 2013 and my goal for 2014 is to take it one step further and become at least mostly vegan. My family doesn't seem to understand my motivation behind this, but I'm doing it for a lot of ethical and health reasons. ...

In March 2014 I joined SparkCoach for a year and purchased the Spark Activity Tracker. I have a long history of battling depression and I know exercise can really help with those symptoms. With the extra motivation of using these Spark tools and the support of all my Spark Friends I want to become a strong, fit, and healthy woman.

I quit smoking for seven years and then started again in the autumn of 2009. I quit again on September 18, 2013. I still haven't lost all the weight I gained when I originally quit all those years ago, I probably put on 100 pounds that time. I lost about 50 that I've mostly kept off. I don't want to gain anything this quit. And with menopause looming I really need to get down to healthy weight now and get more fit.

My Goals:
My main goal is just to feel good in every sense of the word, physically, mentally, emotionally, I just want to feel good.

My Program:
Following a plant-based diet, edging my way up to 10,000 steps a day, strength exercising five days a week ... just being conscious of what I'm doing and why.

Personal Information:
I'm from a very small rural community in NB, Canada. I experienced a major life trauma in 2011 and 2012 that has really changed me forever. I am a very positive person but those were extremely dark years. I work hard every day to be at least the person I was before then, and someday even better.

Other Information:
I love television, movies, books, music, art, the theatre, and most anything cultural. I enjoy wine entirely too much, particularly the reds and I'm a bit of a foodie.

Thank you for taking the time to post some helpful suggestions in response to my blog!
I just read in your profile that you have quit smoking.... oh boy, I can relate! I've quit and restarted again many times, but I think it is now for good (it's been over a decade for me). No one realizes how powerful the addiction is until they go through it themselves. good for you! Carry on with your efforts to stay smoke free (and smell good!)
