I once believed I could not lose weight or quit smoking or start exercising. But I found that if I had faith in myself and use the resources I have found on Sparks: I can! I quit smoking 5 years ago and lost over 60 pounds. I think if you look inside yourself you will be surprised to find you can do it too.

The first rule of success, and one that supersedes all others, is to have energy.
It's important to know how to concentrate it. Focus your energy on important matters instead of frittering it away on meaningless things.
Nothing will add more power to your life then concentrating all your energies on a limited set of goals.
You must focus the full power of all you are on what you have a burning desire to achieve if you truly want to be successful.
Gather in your resources, rally all your faculties, marshal all your energies, focus all your capacities upon attaining your objectives.
You must be single minded, and drive for the things you have decided upon.
The sun's rays do not burn until brought to a focus.
One Day at a Time
Whatever the goal we're pursuing,

No regrets. As we become more aware, we begin to realize that thereï¿½s a purpose to everything that happens. This builds our trust, and supports us in being willing to be more open and daring to really experience life as it unfolds.
If we pay attention to whatï¿½s happening in each moment, we will discover that life continually brings us opportunities to heal our past wounds. When a painful memory surfaces, we can take the time to feel it fully, give compassion to ourselves and any others and allow the energy to release. As we deal with the past in this way IN THE PRESENT, we free ourselves to more fully connect with life.

Married over 29 years and have one daughter who is attending college. I love to read and workout in the pool.
I have been overweight since my mid 20s and when I quit smoking on 10/27/2007 I packed on more pounds.
I hope to lose my weight so I can enjoy a cruise to Alaska in 2014 or 2015

It's January! And, if you're like many, that means resolutions are in full force, you're workin' the scale, getting your body moving, sleeping more, and maybe even working less (yeah, right!). Congratulations. Stick with it. But, remember, there are good and bad ways to get in shape. Here is a tip to ensure your efforts pay off -- the healthy way.
Make friends with the scale. There's a wide chasm of opinion between those who support using a scale, and those who do not. Many physicians say it's a smart way to monitor the effect our eating habits have on our weight, while weight loss consultants and those who study body image, would rather you toss it in the trash, or use it for anaerobic exercise. The answer seems to lie in the middle.
Either way......BE A WARRIOR THIS WEEKEND!

Often people attempt to live their lives backwards;
they try to have more things, or more money,
in order to do more of what they want, so they will be happier.
The way it actually works is the reverse.
You must first be who you really are, then do what you need to do,
in order to have what you want.
