Full Marathon Finisher!!!

Hi! I am Shannon and I just turned 30!!! And I am going to make the best of it! I have been living the spark way since January 2008! I love Sparkpeople and everything it offers! I lost 35 pounds in 2008, but have gained 20 of that back. But I am determined to get to my goal weight by the end of the year. I have also met some of my Spark friends in real life and have run races with them and hope we can do more in the future!

I have also met some of my Spark friends in real life and have run races with them and hope we can do more in the future!
I have been married for 7 years to an avid runner and seeing how determined he is makes me more motivated to finally get this weight off for good and to push myself when it comes to running. I am so proud of him! He is the hardest worker that I know! He always tells me that all great triumphs seem impossible at first. We have 2 awesome kids, Caiden, who is 5 and Chloe, who is 4. They have started running as well and they love it.

I taught 3rd grade for a couple of years in Northern, CA, but we moved to South Dakota in 2006 which made it possible to stay home with my kids. I love to be home with them, but this has been hard on my eating, because being at home, I am always surrounded by food!

I ran my first half marathon in August 2007 at the Leading Ladies HM in Spearfish, SD with a time of 2:29:08. After that first half, I was hooked. It is my favorite racing distance. Since that first one, I have run 6 more half marathons and plan to do many more. My current PR is 2:05:12 so all of my halves have been between 2:05 and 2:29.

On August 16th 2009, I completed my first FULL marathon with a time of 5:06:13. I never thought I would say that, but I did it. I can now call myself a marathoner!!!!

My New Year's Resolution in 2009 was to run at least one race each month and I did that plus running 6 more races for a grand total of 18 races ran in 2009.

My goal for 2010 is to run as many races as I can including running 5 half marathons in 5 months starting in June. I REALLY want to get my half marathon time under 2 hours.

My Goals:
- Lose 30 pounds

-Run 12 races (1 per month) - DONE - I ran 18 races in 2009!

-Run a FULL MARATHON before I turn 30 - August 2009!! - DONE 8/16!


- Exercise at least 5 times a week

-Run at least 4 times per week

-Run a 5K in under 27 minutes

- Run a 10K in under 58 minutes

-Run a 1/2 marathon in under 2 hours

-Run a Full Marathon in under 5 hours

-Go to Fitness Classes 2-3 times per week



My Program:
- I'm eating 1400 - 1500 calories a day - tracking everything that goes into my mouth!

- I've added lots of fruits and veggies to my diet

- I ran 18 races in 2009 - at least one every month - first New Years Resolution I ever finished!

- I do a long run on Sunday (8-12 miles), easier runs on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday (3-7 miles) and a Tempo Run (5-8 miles) on Wednesday.

I'm running 20-25 miles a week right now

- I'm going to the gym or running 5-6 times a week

- I drink a ton of water!

Personal Information:
I live in Belle Fourche, SD, but I am originally from Hamilton, MT. I would love to get back there someday, but I like SD too!

Other Information:
I love to run, read, go to sporting events (any!) watch movies, have girl's nights, take my kids to fun places and shop! I love the Montana Grizzlies and the Pittsburg Steelers!

Hello Shannon! Thanks for your note on my SparkPage. Way to go on finishing your first full marathon last year! I did my first and, so far, only full marathon in 2007 in Burlington, Vermont. It was great. For now, I'm sticking to half marathons to spare my knees and make sure I can keep running for many years to come. I'm planning to do the Snow Joke Half in Seeley Lake at the end of February, as well as the Missoula Half in July and perhaps another one towards the end of the year. Half marathons work well for me since they scare me just enough to keep me running, but aren't too hard on my schedule or my body. Take care, and keep running!
