When Life Gives You Lemons Make Lemonade

Just when things seem to be cruising along in our daily life, we encounter a challenge or obstacle that we hadn't bargained for. It can be something temporary or permanent, and how we respond to it can make all the difference in the quality of our life as we try to move forward out of this place.

Just when things seem to be cruising along in our daily life, we encounter a challenge or obstacle that we hadn't bargained for. It can be something temporary or permanent, and how we respond to it can make all the difference in the quality of our life as we try to move forward out of this place.

These are our lemons. We all have our own bunch of lemons. When you find yourself with a lemon or a bunch of them, it's your chance, and CHOICE, to find a way to add sweetness to the sourness that you're feeling, and make some lemonade.

If you've ever made lemonade, you know that it doesn't taste good if it's too sweet. Too much sugar makes a sickeningly sweet syrup that lacks that "refreshing zing of flavor" that you hoped for.

Good lemonade makes our taste buds POP! It's that very sourness that makes us not only pucker up, but utter "Aahhhh" when we reach the bottom of the glass, and sends us back for more.

We don't have a choice about how many lemons appear on our tree of life, but we do have the choice in the recipe for our lemonade.

Life is like sweet lemonade
You savor every taste
Live it to its fullest
Never a day should you waste.

Drink in all your surroundings
Fill yourself from within
Close your eyes and relish it all
Enjoy everything once again.

This is nourishment for your soul
It will quench your appetite
The hunger that grips your very core
Can also give you sheer delight.

Feed upon the bounty before you
Don't ever be afraid
Just venture out and take a sip
Because life is like sweet lemonade.

My Goals:
Summer 5% Challenge Goals

* I will track my food and water every day.

* I will track my exercise every day.

* I will concentrate my efforts on a combination of strength training and cardio to achieve my weight loss goal.

* I will strive to exercise every day, but will exercise no less than 5 days a week for a minimum of 30 minutes each day.

* I will aim to accumulate at least 800 Spark Fitness Points every month.

* I will follow the nutritional guidelines set forth by Spark People for me during this challenge.

* I will strive to stay within my Spark nutritional guidelines during this challenge.

* I will stay focused on my efforts to help me move forward to achieve my goals.

* I will strive to lose 12 pounds by the end of this challenge.

* I will eat between 1200-1600 calories/day

* I will try to burn 650 or more calories each week






My Program:
I am doing 30 minutes of exercise at least 5 times per week.

I am focusing on the foods that I eat and how they fit into my nutritional guidelines for the day.

I am also drinking my water, and logging it every day.

I will resume strength training at least 2 times per week.

Other Information:
I am a certified Ai Chi Trainer, and love the water. It is a very giving, healing thing.

Ai Chi, like life, is all about balance - mind, body, and spirit.

Weekends are wonderful!!!! But, they can also be a time for us to be challenged by events and situations that can sabotage our desires to live a healthy lifestyle. Here are some tips to help you have a healthier weekend:

**Moderate sugary and alcohol drinks. Many people fail to realize a good portion of their caloric intake comes from beverages. Whether sports drinks or sodas, sugary beverages do little to satisfy and could cause you to eat more. A John Hopkins University study revealed that individuals lost more weight over 5 months by eliminating calories from beverages rather than solid foods.

**Start a meal with salad or broth. Instead of diving right into the main course, begin your meal with a low-fat soup or salad. But pass on creamy soups or salads topped with heavy dressings. Eating the first course reduces the amount of food you will eat during the main course.
