Idealist hiding behind snarky humor and a five course dinner

I originally joined SparkPeople in 2/2013 for one reason only: to look good in my interview suit! Because I am 20+ years older than most of my college and job market competitors, I was very concerned that I look at least as fit as they did (if not better!)

Other mature Sparkers have motivated me to try new things. I discovered I love to run, which is an epiphany. ME, uncoordinated, asthmatic me! Thank you, dear Sparkies!

Current Status:
SHIRAZSOLLY has found that standard poodle dog bed is just the right size and thickness for floor exercises. Solly likes to "help" by piling on toy monkeys and bears while she does sit ups.

My Goals:
4/13/2013: New goal: weigh 2 Sollys by end of summer. Started out weighing 2 Sollys plus one and a half Earls.

5/13: Have signed up for some 5ks. Itching to increase fitness level to run a half marathon by next spring!

Also noticed I can't flex left arm anymore to make a muscle due to nerve damage. Hmmm.. didn't realize it had gotten that pathetic. Working on evening out arm strength, too.

My Program:
3/13 - I always enjoy working on my farmette and walking my standard poodle. Additionally, I rejoined the YMCA, where I attempt to study science nerd books while racewalking on the treadmill. I try not to look absurdly uncoordinated and lopsided in Arses in Old Lace, Great Gaspies and Agony and Ex-Sexy exercise classes. I'm afraid I am the unintentional comic relief for the class, even with my mouth closed.

Personal Information:
Interests: Jewish history, immunology, gerontology, natural farming, hiking, dogs, wildlife, music made by real people... and as of May, 2013, RUNNING! Look out, Oregon!

Other Information:
Devouring running articles, blogs and books. Trying not to care that my weight loss has stalled because my endurance has increased.

Thanks for your sweet comments on my photos. Disclaimer: I am not a doctor! I just have crazy reading retention for everything I read, LOL. Since you have tachycardia, I'm sure that is contributing to your overheating. I actually have a low heart rate, but when it's hot or humid my HR soars. I get overheated, dehydrated, headachy and a little nauseous. You really should be wearing a heart rate monitor. Don't get a cheap watch from Walmart that doesn't have a chest strap -highly inaccurate. I have a Garmin. Pricey, but well worth it for your safety. I think when you review the data you will find what is happening and be able to resolve it. My guess is that you are running faster than your level of fitness. Slowing down and learning to run by heart rate will be very helpful. Reduced oxygen intake from your asthma deprives your muscles when they need more. So your heart pumps faster to move more oxygen to meet the demand. (And increases your body temperature). So try out a heart rate monitor and see what you learn from it! When you get that overheating under control, you will really enjoy the run. I'm not excited that we are in the 90s now. Yuck.

Yes, a good physical therapist can do wonders if the patient follows instructions. I have all the good intentions. Ugh.
