I have been on this weight loss journey for a few years, although I didn't start taking it seriously until March 2012. My first year of teaching I gained 20 pounds. I was living by myself for the first time in my life and overworked and overstressed so exercise was at a minimum and fast food was at a maximum. Since that year, 2008, I knew I needed to lose weight. I just didn't do anything to actually do it.

In March 2012, I was overweight and had high blood pressure at age 26. I decided it was time to take control. Motivated by a "Biggest Loser" challenge among my friends, I joined Weight Watchers. Although it has been slow going, I have been successful. The pounds aren't falling off very quickly, but I am healthier, happier, and more confident in myself.

For me, the journey to health isn't about seeing the pounds drop. While I enjoy seeing the scale go down, there's more to it than that. I'm too young to have health problems! I have so much life ahead of me that I want to enjoy. My journey is about creating a healthy mind and a healthy body.

I think back to my original goals. I wanted to be in the normal BMI range (still have that goal... 6 pounds away). I wanted to run 2 miles without slowing down (4 is now a breeze for me). I wanted to wear cute, stylish clothes (my Maurices credit card can answer that one). I'm not done yet, but I've come a long way.

My Goals:
I want to be healthier than I ever have been.

1. Have a normal BMI reading (135 pounds)

2. Run a 10k

3. Look in a mirror and be genuinely happy about what I see

4. Be a fitness role model for the students I teach; especially those who lead a sedentary lifestyle at such a young age


My Program:
I joined Weight Watchers on March 14, 2012. I do my best to track my food and stay within my PointsPlus allowance.

While I enjoy exercising, I find that an external reward keeps my motivation up. Every 20th workout I reward myself with an item I want. (usually a Cricut cartridge!).



Personal Information:
I'm a country girl who has relocated to the city.

I live for hot, outside summer runs where the sweat just drips down my nose and crisp fall runs where every step crunches a leaf.

I'm a teacher who is passionate about my kids and providing them with the opportunity to learn and succeed.

I'm a crafter. Scrapbooking and cardmaking is my main game, but I'll try just about anything. Learning to sew is next on my crafting bucket list.


Other Information:
You can do this. It's about mindset and motivation. It's about doing this for YOU. Not for your spouse, your kids, your parents. It's you. This is your journey. This is your health and your body. You CAN do it!

    Kindergarten? You must be a saint! There is no way I'd be anything but stressed! I try to at least know what all I'm teaching and when before school starts and I have my lesson outlines in place before school starts. I'm pretty picky about leaving work at work and home at home so I try to be well enough organized that at worst I'm reading chapter books or grading the occasional essay at home but that's all I will do at home during the school year. My time with with hubby and daughter are sacred.

    Haven't caught up with you in ages! Hope this finds you well; reading through your blogs as well. I'm in a struggling, get down on myself phase right now emoticon . Weight gains despite workouts and fairly healthy diet...my body is rebelling and I've yet to figure out the reason why (nor have the docs). Hopefully I'll have answers soon, but in the meantime, I refuse to give up!
