Getting Going on Making the Golden Years Great!

I'm Susan - a wife, mother of three, first time grandmother, and ready to be fit! I live out in the country with my husband, dog and two horses, and enjoy gardening, riding and walking. It's time to make my health a priority!

"You don't get what you want, you get what you work for." It's time to do the work!

I've completed my first challenge, Winter 5%, and exceeded my goal.

My Goals:
Overall Goals:

Making healthy choices every day, and getting back on track when I misstep are my main goals.

Short term goal:

Weigh 173, which will officially lower my BMI to "over" instead of "obese!"

I don't consider myself to be on a diet, because diets have an end, and living a healthy lifestyle needs to continue until Jesus calls me home!

My Program:
Focusing on lots of vegetables, fruits, low fat proteins, whole and complex grains and little to no sugar. My exercise program includes treadmill workouts, exercise videos, beginning strength training (besides lifting 50 pound bags of feed and my 35 pound grandson) gardening, and horses (care and riding).

Personal Information:
I have lived in beautiful North Georgia since I was a teenager. My husband, Steve, and I live on 20 rural acres where I am blessed to be able to do the things I love - garden, have horses, walk and enjoy the country!
We have raised two daughters and one son, all who still live fairly close by. Now that I am retired, I can spend more time with my grandson.

I know! I thought after having ridden regularly for over 50 years and winning many ribbons in Horsemanship, that I could ride pretty well. I wish that I knew then, what I know now! Steve is a great teacher. He gives group lessons and private lessons as well as training 8 to 9 horses at a time. He is getting popular, he has a waiting list for the horses in training!

His wife is the one battling an aggressive form of breast cancer at age 35. She has gone through all her chemo though and has had her mastectomies, and is now cancer free! Still a long road ahead with radiation and then, reconstruction. She feels that the horses and riding helped to calm her and helped her to get over this terrible disease.

You and DH have a great Thanksgiving, too! emoticon

If they had an emoticon for horse hugs (or even just for horses) I'd post it here. lol

Thanks for the tip Sue! I will have to get something that will clean up all the construction dirt in the house! I was afraid the swiffers were pretty expensive!
