My weight loss story is not typical and it's hardly inspiring. But here it is anyway...

When I started SparkPeople, I weighed 142 pounds. I'm 5'10", which means that my BMI was 20.4, well within the normal range. So why was it a problem? Most of my adult life (I'm in my early forties) I've been about 120 pounds. (Yes, for my height, that's thin, I know; but with my build and activity level, it was normal.) The problem with the weight gain was that I have a bad knee. I ...

I wrecked it when I was a teenager and had to have it surgically repaired when I was in my twenties. I love the outdoors and being active. I especially love to run. After the weight gain, running was making my bad knee hurt. A lot. So I decided to get the extra weight off. I lost 17 pounds on Spark and maintain at 125. It wasn't easy, it was a downright slog (I have so much respect for anyone who has lost more). But it was totally worth it. For me, it wasn't about getting healthy because I was already pretty healthy (although there's always room for improvement). It also wasn't about vanity or body image. For me, it was all about quality of life. I love it that now I can do all the things I love to do without worrying about how much it's going to hurt!

I loved your comment on my daughter's blog (Hayburner1969). You are very much like my DD#2 (5'10" and around 130 lbs), also a runner.
Long may we run!

Thanks so much for your advice about running. I will definitely talk to my doctor.

Hi - Thanks for reading and commenting on my blog Login Points. You made me laugh because I actually logged in from my phone this morning when I got the "1." But you're right, I think usually, when I "spin" from my phone (I call it a spin even though it's not really a spin) it's usually a higher result! And I think you're right that I now login from my phone because it's less painful than waiting for the actual "spin" to complete and I'm convincing myself the whole time it's ridiculous and I really don't care what I get but then my whole demeanor falls when I get that low number! What a riot! We've just GOT to get them to change this . . .
Thanks for your support -
Have a great night -
