Hello

I live in Cumbria (in the north-west of England). I love running in the hills and am an active member of the local church.

I was really pleased to discover SparkPeople because it will help me to not only lose excess weight, but also do it in a healthy and, I hope, lasting manner. It's certainly a challenge, but then I like challenges!

I've just signed up to the Spring 2013 5% Challenge and I'm in the Awesome A Team again, which I'm really pleased about. I've gained quite a bit of weight over the past few months, not helped by breaking my leg at the end of January. Although I really tried on the 5% Winter Challenge after the first three or four weeks my weight started rising again and I became really disheartened.

I went to see my doctor about it last week and have just had a blood test to see if there's any medical reason for it. He's then going to refer me to a dietician to see if that will help me to reduce the amount I'm eating.

I still can't do much in the way of cardio exercise - my ankle isn't healing very well so I've been told to 'scale back' on what little I was doing, but I CAN swim so I'll make sure I do lots of that as well as walking.

I'm going to get concentrate on setting sm all and achievable targets and then sticking to them. 60 mintues of exercise each day and sticking to my calorie range - always a very big challenge.

I'm NOT giving up! And I'm going to try to be a really helpful member of the Awesome A Team too.

My Goals:
I want to be slim, fit into my 'slim' clothes comfortably, feel good about my body, not embarrassed by it and to be able to run faster. And I want to do all this in a healthy way that I can maintain. I also want to feel good about myself as a person, which I often don't at the moment.

I need to be kinder to myself and give myself the rest, sleep and healthy food my body requires instead of punishing myself all the time.

My Program:
I'm going to track all my food, stick within my calorie goals, and exercise and do strength training at least twice a week. I'm also making sure I stretch for 5 minutes a day.

Hi Lindsay,
Thank you for the goodie. Don't worry about being late, I seem to be taking 2 steps forward and 3 behind. Just got back from a funeral (One of wife's very close friends). We went Sunday and stayed overnight. We stayed right at the funeral home - my wife's brother is a mortician. (Have had some interesting times there.)
Hope you have a great week!

A belated thanks for sharing my A-day with me. I know I can do it, but most of the time I don't know how.

I've been feeling pretty down the last couple of days so I decided I needed to look into some inspirational quotes to share regarding hope. The first one is by Christopher Reeve:

"Once you choose hope, anything's possible."

Then I saw one by Dale Carnegie:

“Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all."

These both spoke to me loudly so I thought I would share them with my emoticon and hope they spoke to you just as loudly.

Have a wonderful weekend and choose hope!
