2015 ~ Time for a Reboot. Time for Recovery.

Back again with a fresh motivation to conquer bad habits and build new healthy ones.

I "joined" SparkPeople in 2010, but things didn't click for me until 2012 when I had a wake-up call. At my heaviest weight, I dealt with heart palpitations and night-time panic attacks which led to ER visits, all kinds of tests (incl. a 30-day heart monitor) to see what was going on. I lost roughly 12 lbs. over several months just making small changes. Then when I joined SP, I lost another 12 lbs. ...

I "joined" SparkPeople in 2010, but things didn't click for me until 2012 when I had a wake-up call. At my heaviest weight, I dealt with heart palpitations and night-time panic attacks which led to ER visits, all kinds of tests (incl. a 30-day heart monitor) to see what was going on. I lost roughly 12 lbs. over several months just making small changes. Then when I joined SP, I lost another 12 lbs. within several weeks of faithful tracking. My nutrition improved, and I cut my salt and sugar intake. My heart thanked me, and I started to heal. This was a huge accomplishment, since PCOS makes it so hard to lose weight.

Later in April-May 2013, my husband and I went on a life-changing adventure on the Appalachian Trail. Due to a leg injury (a contusion in my shin), we had to quit in Hot Springs, NC. This 6-week "boot camp" helped me lose another 22 lbs. I started feeling more vibrant and alive, as well as seeing improvement with PCOS conditions.

Fast forward two years later, and I've returned to my original weight before getting serious in 2012. As I packed on the pounds, I felt I lost all the progress I fought so hard to achieve. The last few months, I've been through moderate to severe depression as well as insomnia (again). I started feeling like giving up entirely on my health.

However, something inside me is starting to emerge. Maybe it's the courageous warrior that first started emerging on the A.T.
All I know is I'm not a loser. And I'm worth fighting for!

I want to live a long, healthy life and be a good partner to my husband. We want to have more adventures together, and I want to increase my confidence and live an abundant, joyful life.

So I'm ready for a Reboot, and I'm kicking all this extra weight and depression to the curb!

~I want to reverse pre-diabetes and hypertension.

~I want to balance my hormones and heal my body (PCOS, hypothyroidism, insulin resistance)

(***I will then make a new weight loss goal to lose the remaining weight to have a healthy BMI.)


My Program:
Whole Foods with focus on fresh foods, organic when possible.

Low-Carb, Low-Sodium, Low-Cholesterol, and Low-Sugar.

Exercise:
Walk 5x a week minimum for at least 30-60 minutes*.

Other cardio with focus on toning, endurance, etc. 3x week.

Strength training 3x a week.

Stretch daily to help with pain issues and achieve greater flexibility.

*I will also include hiking and backpacking. Also, as I drop weight, I may do intervals of light jogging in my walking routine, and I also want to try doing a little trail running.

Diet:
I want to use the Food Tracker as my daily food journal and record how foods make me feel, what agitates heart palpitations, spikes blood sugar, etc. I want to eliminate foods that hurt my overall health.

I want to overcome caffeine and sugar addictions, and also eliminate processed foods & refined carbs, etc. from my diet.





Personal Information:
I'm a mixed-media artist from Indiana, married to my best friend for 15+ years who never hesitates to tell me I'm beautiful no matter how much weight I've lost or gained. I volunteer my time and resources helping charities in East Africa. I enjoy hiking with my husband and a local backpacking group. I have dreams of being a nomadic artist at some point in the near future.

emoticon Great to see your Spark Friend, emoticon KACEYSW as The Motivator of the Week. emoticon

Have you Bill Bryson's wonderful book "A WALK IN THE WOODS?" Oh, he hiked the trail and it is such a funny read. He didn't make it all the way the first summer, so he had to go back and finish the next summer, but even my husband who isn't much on reading LOVED the book. (Bill's wonderful book "A Short History of Nearly Everything" is one of the best books ever.)

Do listen to the lectures of Richard Bernstein M.D. on YouTube as he has 18 new ones. I got his book "The Diabetes Solution" as he has a wonderful full chapter on women with PCOS, and he says ALL obese people are Insulin Resistant. He has Type1 diabetes and is now a healthy 78, as he was diagnosed at age 12.
