Check Ron's Backpakers magazine for my d.i.l ...Melissa is one of the survivors featured in this issue! I have't actually seen it yet, but Mel did send email pics of the pages... Sorry you got in the yucky weather ... I don't like those kinds of hikes. I'm a faith-weather girl!
Excited to hear about your mission trip! I am doing some "ESL support" right here at home ... The Taiwanese folks who came to church & I've now taken them on 3 simple hikes. The wife barely speaks at all, and husband is trying hard to get comfortable with English. Definitely out of my comfort zone!

Think Planet Fitness will work. I don't like that they don't have a scale (??? -- "we are a 'no judgement zone'"). But for $99 for a full year, I couldn't pass it up. They have a 30 min interval circuit which I tried yesterday. Harder than I thought. Followed it with 30 min on treadmill and 10 stretching. I do hate feeling like "the new kid" and not knowing exactly which machine is where ... but I'll get familiar with the set-up after a few times. Better not to let myself get out of the habit of regular strength workouts just because I couldn't decide where to go!
