Laying the foundation for a healthy life

I'm starting this latest journey for vastly different reasons than any of my weight loss attempts in the past. I've dieted and exercised ad nauseum before for the glory of a 27" waste and the victory of fitting into a certain size of pants. And while I won't lie and say those things aren't important to me, now I realize that the REAL reason I need to get in shape is so that I have a body that will carry me successfully into the next 4 decades of my life.

And while I won't lie and say those things aren't important to me, now I realize that the REAL reason I need to get in shape is so that I have a body that will carry me successfully into the next 4 decades of my life.

In the past, I've struggled with black and white thinking, at one point I even developed an ED from my perfectionist fitness quest. After recovering, I swung to the other side of the pendulum, fearing any attempts to eat right or exercise would lead back to the obsessive way of thinking about health and fitness. Now I'm finally ready to try to find the middle ground. Wish me luck!

My Program:
I'm working out 5 times per week: 3X cardio and 2X weight lifting.

I'm cutting out most junk food and soda and focusing on fresh fruits and vegetables and preparing meals at home instead of takeout everyday.

I'm also taking a look at my alcohol consumption. I'm a social gal and living in the booziest city in America (Washington DC), so this one might be a challenge, but I plan on scaling back a lot the amount of calories I consume from alcohol.
