July, 2006: I've never been naturally slim, but never overweight, either--until this past year when I gained about ten pounds and went from, what I'd call 'curvy,' to down right pudgy. My fat percentage has been calculated at 31.5%, which is officially in the overweight category. It's time for me to reign in those overeating impulses and make better use of my exercise time. I got into an exercise habit about two years ago. Exercising is, for me, the easy part of the weight-loss equation. Unfortunately, it's not the only part. I've never been very good at keeping my sweet tooth and snack attacks under control and that's what I'm trying to focus on here at SparkPeople. I'm hoping to lose about 18 pounds total by next February when I reach my 48th birthday. And next summer is my 30 year class reunion. Dare I hope to show off a great body by then!!??

Update: February 14, 2007--Illness and injury have set me back somewhat. I've lost only five pounds, with about 10-13 more to go to reach my goal. I've reset it for the beginning of summer. I'm exercising, I'm tracking my food (sometimes!). I'm hoping and praying I won't get sidetracked or benched in the meantime!!

Update: February 5, 2008--Wow! This is not going as well as I thought. I'm not doing my part. I'm not being consistent about working toward my goals. I still weigh about 151--only two pounds lost since I started with SparkPeople! Oh well. At least I haven't gained. My goal is the same (135 lbs.), but my new goal date is October 3, 2008. I think I'm doing pretty well so far this year with my New Year's Resolutions to stay on track with regular workouts and healthier eating. I'm going to keep trying!!

Update: October 18, 2011--I'm still here and I keep trying. I gained a few pounds, lost a few, gained, yadiyada. Stress, injury/ailments, and mild depression are all keeping me from realizing my goals. Yet I push on. I can't give up because I don't want to fail. Life goes on and I must go with it. And I'd prefer to go forward with a slimmer figure! Stay tuned...

Update: March 3, 2014--I've been making progress lately due to much more focus on my diet. (I've lost 18 pounds since last March!) I still struggle to lose a few more pounds (or even just to maintain my current weight!), so I will stick with SP and keep up the challenge of fitness and health. I love how I'm feeling right now and that is a great motivator!

My Goals:
I'd like to lose about 18 pounds and improve my physical fitness in all areas. I'd also like to learn healthy eating habits that I can maintain for the long-term. 3/3/14 Update: Want to lose about 3-8 more pounds.

My Program:
I've joined Sparkpeople to help manage my eating habits and I'm a regular at the Videofitness board. I exercise almost daily and am trying to start an eating journal to track my progress.

Personal Information:
I am from downstate Illinois. I love to travel but haven't had the budget for too many trips lately. My darned house takes up all my extra income! I have a Master's degree and work as an office manager at a university. I lived in St. Louis for about three years in the late 80s and still love that town. I have two cats (obviously!) but love all animals (with exceptions, of course--like possums and rats and snakes, etc.). I grew up on a farm, but I now prefer the convenience of town life.

Other Information:
I'm a big Jane Austen fan and 18th-19th C. British fiction in general. Lately, I've been watching a bunch of BBC productions from Netflix, etc. and am becoming a true Anglophile. I have a variety of other interests, but remain unfocused in most areas. I dabble, I guess you'd say.

    I have been focusing on doing my nutrition journal and getting back into SP time to equal 100 point every day.

    Also Just got back into Our outdoor pool Sunday, it was kind of cold but I was able to do 20 min work out. I am working really hard to get my mom motivated to work out too. PLAN to do Sun, Tues, Fri, routine - hopeful that the weather will allow.

    So I have rather neglected my SP buddies, and all my regular e-mail friends too.

    I read your blog recently it sounded quite a lot like what I have been feeling lately and I wanted to express my sincerest wishes that it all goes well for you.

    I thought I would let you know that we seem to have a few bits in common after looking at your SP page. I too enjoy Jane Austen, also to share I prefer the 1995 production of Persuasion over all others, and the 1990s version of Pride and Prejudice (with Collin Firth).

    I too used to live in Illinois and I miss the mid-west terribly.
