Baby steps really can change your life! I found that out when I started the Spark program in January 2008 and began the process of finding a healthier path for myself, one small step at a time. Even still, maintenance is an ongoing challenge for me and some days I lose my way. That's when I go to Sparkpeople and remind myself about baby steps -- try it! Take just one step in the right direction … and then keep on going …

My Goals:
...like the patient and persistent turtle I want to stay focussed and stay within my maintenance range.


My Program:
It's a lifestyle, not a diet!

Track calorie range every day

Avoid getting too hungry, eat 5-6 smaller meals over the day

Emphasis on lean protein/dairy, fruits, veggies

Minimum 30 minutes active exercise daily

Weigh-in twice a week

Water, water, water

Walk, walk, walk!

Smell, taste, savor each bite

Some (dark) chocolate is required of course!

Eat to live, not as recreation or a time-filler

Do not eat in front of TV

Do not eat directly from bag or box

Use smaller plates

Stop when full -- not overfull

Give up membership in the 'clean plate club'

Plan, plan, plan: take water/snacks on outings; have cut-up veggies ready to nibble

Get informed: check restaurant menus beforehand; check labels for ingredients, recommended portion size etc.

Add a good measure of laughter!

Enjoy the journey!
