I started on Spark in Feb 2007 and at the end of summer 2007, I'd lost 30 pounds and reached a low weight of 144, and did my first triathlon on August 26 2007. I looked and felt awesome.
Over the next two years, I would gain 10-15lbs in the winter, and then lose again in the summer.
The same pattern has held true each year, but now I'm bouncing between a higher start and end weight -- the lowest I've been since summer 2008 is probably 160.
Lots of little fits and starts to try to do better, but nothing has stuck. 8 years and I don't seem to have learned anything except how to yo-yo. I know HOW to lose weight, but I don't know how to motivate myself, or to maintain losses. For me it seems to be all or nothing, which is not a long term solution...
After gaining 45 pounds during my first pregnancy, I'm back down to my pre-pregnancy weight, but still a good 25 lbs above a healthy long-term weight, and things have shifted and I've lost a lot of fitness.
I'm reading a lot about WHAT foods to eat, and I'm more and more convinced that watching carbs (not counting veggies!!) is the way to go. I'm also trying for good gut health.
I want to avoid my nemesis (sugar), be consistently active, and keep my body in a state in which I feel athletic and not slobby.
I want to lose between 30 and 40 pounds total and find and maintain a healthy adult weight. I want to continue improving my running and biking strength and speed and continue to compete in races.
Eat lots of veggies! No sugar or processed food. Keep grains to a minimum except on high cardio days. Drink lots of water and get lots of good fat and protein.
10k steps per day at least 6 days a week. Add activity into daily life wherever possible.
I'm Martha, I'm 36, from Virginia, but living in Connecticut with my husband, my son, and our cat. I work a desk job with some travel.
Music is central to my life and keeps me going. A good song will make me move, or help conquer my fear if I'm trying to ski a hard trail.
I also like to read, and like re-reading favorite books (I think I must have the record for number of times reading Pride and Prejudice.)
