Me as a kid - fourth or fifth grade

Me with my kids at Christmas in 2007. I was looking great when I was 30 pounds lighter!

I used to tell people that I have been overweight my whole life. My family always teased me as a kid about being "fat", and kids at school teased me about being fat so I believed that I was fat.

A few years ago, I found a picture from third or fourth grade, and I realized that I wasn't as fat as I had always thought! I may not have been as stick-skinny as the other girls my age, but I was far from being fat.

I think that I made myself fat since I was always told that ...

I think that I made myself fat since I was always told that I was fat. Maybe things would be different now if I hadn't been teased so much.

My Goals:
My current goal is to lose 35 pounds (10% of my current weight) by my next birthday in April 2012.

According to the BMI calculator, 154 pounds is the top end of the range for my healthy weight. I am using that as my final goal, but I'll be happy with anything under 200!

My Program:
I am using Spark People to help plan my meals, though I don't follow their meal plans exactly. I use them as a guideline to figure out what I can eat and how much.

I walk daily, and I am using Your Shape for Wii to workout in the morning before work. Working out first thing in the morning ensures that I don't make excuses not to exercise later in the day.

My goal for January is 1100 fitness minutes.

Personal Information:
I am a single mom of 3 kids, living in Southern Illinois. I am 36 years old, though I always tell my kids I'm only 28. LOL! I am the youngest of five children.

No I've never tried it, but they are all tough in the beginning and worth it after a couple of weeks. Good luck!

Hi Sherri, I hope you have a wonderful day as WHOTD.

Reading your introduction, it is funny how when we are told things often enough they end up coming true. Like being told you are dumb or ugly or fat, we end up allowing these to become true without even realising it. Guess what? We are better than that and we are all beautiful and we can all manage to get these extra pounds off us.

Take care,
Jennylee

It's amazing how much one thinks differently of themselves when they share their progress with others. Before I used to keep it to myself to see if anybody would notice, but nobody said anything so I would get upset or depressed - unhealthy thinking - and end up back in the slump. It was like an endless cycle. But this time it feels different, for sure, because I'm keeping it off.. I have a great support team, and even Dan is helping out. =]

A little bit of help truely goes a long way when changing.
