Angela's Fitness Tracker

Hey everyone! My name is Angela and I joined SP in June 2009. I gained your typical college weight and then gained some more after college. In January 2009, I peaked at 192lbs and had had enough.

I started off learning about calories in/out without changing too much the types of foods I was eating. I also slowly started working out at this time, realizing just how out of shape I was.

In June 2009, a friend asked me to do a 5K with her in September. I signed up and couldn't go back. She directed me to SP as a website she used to track her calories. Little did I know that the social aspect of SP was what I really needed to be successful in this journey. The moral and mental support was amazing from the start, and I received 2 comments on my very first blog post! I continue to blog and keep up with friends here because it is what keeps me motivated and focused.

I've gone through a lot of changes since I first started on SP. I used the calories in/calories out method at first. Slowly, I changed to a healthier, more natural way of eating. Now, I follow a mostly-Paleo diet of meats, eggs, veggies, and fruit and have never felt better. I quickly learned that I have a lot of food sensitivities and Paleo is what keeps me healthiest.

Also, I had never been a runner in the past but that first 5K I signed up for would change me. Since then I've run many races of different lengths and completed a marathon in October 2012. While I don't always love running, I love the way it makes me feel and keeps my body in shape. I love other activities also like Zumba, weight lifting, cycling, etc. I just enjoy being active.

I initially lost about 40lbs with SP but since my focus has shifted from weight loss to health (and having that "last 10lbs" to lose), the weight doesn't come off as quickly. I am ok with that because my life has changed to one that I want to keep up for the rest of my life. I want to be healthy and fit! This is not something temporary. Being healthy requires daily work, but there will come a point where it isn't work anymore, it is just part of who you are.

New or old to SP, feel free to stop in and say hello or add me as a friend!

My Goals:
My ultimate goal is really overall health and fitness. I would also like to get more fit and build more muscle.

My Program:
I typically run at least a few days a week and strength train also. While my exact workouts vary, they usually follow this basic schedule. I also enjoy other types of cardio like Zumba, Insanity, Biking, etc.

My eating plan has lately been to follow a moatly Paleo Diet. I have found that grains, dairy, and sugar all cause major digestive problems for me and cutting them out is the best move for me. I am still human though and enjoy ice cream and pasta now and then! I go back and forth on counting calories but usually stay somewhere between 1600 and 2000.

Personal Information:
I'm 26, happily married, and I live in New Jersey. I like to do crafts as a hobby (chocolates, scrapbooking, sewing, whatever). I'm a physicist and have returned to graduate school for my doctorate. I also feel like health and fitness is now a hobby of mine too! I also blog often here and at my other website TheChickenScoop.net

Thanks for the advice. I'm not worried about passing down an allergy to my baby as there are no food allergies in my family (or husbands) and my daughter shows no signs of food allergies. I am more concerned with my own comfort. I have known I can't eat ice cream up to two nights before a long run and whenever I do have it in large amounts I get a sour stomach. But, I am ok eating other foods with dairy in them. My GI says it's very common with ulcerative coliits to have a dairy sensitivity and even a gluten sensitivity (which I luckly don't have) so I am pretty sure that's what it is. I am sure I will get fed up enough one day to do something about it!

No go-ahead. It's me saying I've waited long enough. Plus, I'm NEVER cleared (even after spine surgery, which I'm putting off) as my condition is degenerative.

What I'm doing is walking (which I'm not supposed to do at the amount I am) and ST again (which I'm not supposed to lift ANYTHING over 10lb for the rest of my life -- arse, I say). My groceries weigh more. It's ridiculous. I'll be home-bound if I follow their instructions.

I *have* been rudely reminded that my autoimmune won't allow for over twice a week ST, though! I just don't repair. Sometimes, I have to do once every 4 days but it's better than nothing.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I think 5 solid days will feel great!! I know what you mean about the weekend drinks with hubby. That is by far one of my biggest problems. We have been enjoying wine a little too often and margaritas too lol! Sigh... I jus have to try a little harder to stay focused during the weekends. At least for this month then summer will be a little more enjoyable.
I really need to make it passed my 4 days in a row max of days without grains. If I do that then I will feel like I can get through the weekend too!

I've been eating ALL my good stuff, just bingeing on candy (and I mean a lot; like it's not 2 reese's cups, try 12 at a time).

I went to the UA site (general) and it looked like a lot of stuff I'm not into (mostly marketing).

I'd love to follow along with how you're doing, though!
