In the past I have tried just about everything to lose weight, I've done all the major programs, tried various exercise routines, gym memberships, I've even given thought to weight loss drugs and Lap Band or Gastric Bypass surgery (Yikes!)

None of my previous tries ever stuck. I would get confused, or discouraged, or both. Confused about portion sizes, discouraged because I'd always feel hungry after a meal or get MAJOR cravings.

Before Sparkpeople I could never determine where my cravings were coming from, and I didn't have the tools to figure out what an ounce of crackers or a tablespoon of butter looked like.

I would lose motivation when other's would tempt me with my favorite food as I felt I had to deprive myself of those to lose weight.

The biggest and I think most important thing that SP has taught me is moderation, and it's also taught me that there are some things that I simply CANNOT control myself around. Like cheese pizza :drools: or coca-cola. I now realize I will have to make those a once a month treat.

I know I'll have set backs and I do still splurge more than I'd like, but hey I've been eating enough for two grown people for years so it's difficult to cut out a whole person's meal a day. BUT I can do anything I set my mind to, it's just gonna take time.


Okay. I calculated my BMI and determined "when" I will drop down in "explinations". So here it is.

316 - 46.7 BMI - Morbidly Obese (this is where I am now)
270 - 39.9 BMI - No longer Morbidly Obese
202 - 29.8 BMI - No longer Obese
168 - 24.8 BMI - No longer Overweight

If I lose at a rate of a pound a week (which is what seems to be happening) it will take me just under 3 years to get there, but I can do it!

I just wish there was a way to have two counters so that I could track both my long and short term weight goals.


January 8, 2010 - I am returning after too long of a hiatus and gaining back 15 lbs. This program really does work, now if I can just get my butt in gear and keep myself motivated!


December 16, 2010 - I adjusted my weightloss ticker to start at the weight I was when I first strarted losing weight, though that was more than a year before joining sparkpeople.

My Goals:
My overall goal is simply to be healthier.

I'll be updating my new goals soon, but I need to write them out so I can list them in order of priority, and come up with some new "prizes".

My Program:
I am following my own eating plan. Basically it's a trial and error plan and I've found out some REALLY interesting things:

1) I cannot drink or eat anything with high-fructose corn syrup or high amounts of sugar or I am in immense pain and immediately gain weight.

2) If I eat less than 30g of (good) fat a day I can't loose weight. (I've done some research since I realized this, and it looks like certain fats actually help your metabolism burn stored fat. O.o Go figure!)

3) For me water is the key. If I don't get at least half of my liquid as water itself I have a harder time losing weight and just generally feel ill. (Adding 2 or 3 lemon slices helps greatly)

4) I am gluten intolerant. I think it's been building for years and found that many of my problems can actually be CAUSED by not following a gluten free diet if you're intolerant.

I workout with an awesome trainer two times a week. I'm trying to get back in the habit of working out on

    There are other things you can munch on...there was a featured blog or something just this morning or yesterday with suggestions of things you can eat that won't upset your day. I need to go back and find it again for ME, too. I just breezed by it without reading I am rethinking that.
