The Importance of Happiness

I'm Cindy and I live in Pfafftown, North Carolina. I'm very lucky because I married my best friend, Tommy, in 1995. Tommy was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in 2009. He continued to live and enjoy his life while battling this horrible disease. After almost four years of survival, Tommy passed away from pneumonia and sepsis on July 19, 2013. Our sweet Doberman Thor (and Tommy's best buddy) was also diagnosed with cancer and after a two year battle, he passed away on December 21, 2013. I ...

I can take some comfort in knowing those two best friends are together again.

Tommy's diagnosis changed everything in our lives and I almost completely quit exercising. I've paid the price for my lack of exercise by adding back some of the pounds and feeling unhealthy and tired. Now I'm ready to start working on getting my life back and spending more time enjoying the outdoor activities I love.

I'm taking things one day at a time. One of the most important lessons I learned from Tommy was to enjoy each and every day that we have here on this Earth because there is no guarantee for tomorrow. If he was able to be happy and enjoy life while he was fighting cancer, then there is no excuse for me to let some extra weight bring me down. So many of us think about how happy we'll be when we reach our goals, but we need to be happy today, while we're working toward those goals. So I will look for something to enjoy in every day, just as Tommy used to do.

My Goals:
To get back to a healthy weight and make more time for hiking, backpacking and kayaking.

My Program:
I use my nutrition tracker faithfully and I now understand how much food I used to eat. I never realized how fast those calories add up until I started putting everything into the tracker. I'm also trying to drink more water and eat healthier foods and get some exercise each day. I plan on doing a lot more hiking on weekends.

Personal Information:
I love hiking and backpacking, kayaking, camping (really anything outdoors) and photography. I have two sons, two step-sons, four grandchildren and a my sweet Doberman, Thor!

Other Information:
Although I live in North Carolina, I love the southwest better than any place else, especially the slot canyons in Utah. I also love photography and have loaded a lot pictures to my flickr page at the link below.

Thanks for the comment on my blog. I really like Jillian's 30 day Shred or her beginner shred. I like her 3-2-1 training. 3 mins of strength, 2 minutes of cardio, 1 min abs. It's doable. Each exercise is for only 30 sec. None over 1min. each.
