01/15/2014 - Found out that I'm gonna be a granddad again(no. 12).

08/07/2013 - Going to see grandson Tad and his wife Kimmy tomorrow for dessert, and to find out what gender our great grandchild is... Call me GREAT grandpa now....

07/18/2013 - Looking forward to flying up to Seattle WA. to see our sone Pete & his girlfriend Jeanette...

09/23/2011 - Well, it's official... We (my wife and I) are new empty-nesters now... Moved my 26yr old son Pete up to Seattle 3 wks ago and now we're in this big ol' house by ourselves... So far so good, spending some time consoling my wife cuz she misses her baby, but that's what I'm here for... Got a job at the end of August, working for S. Bernardino County. Outdoors, very physical, and I enjoy it! It's cut into my workouts BIG time which is a challenge, but it'll work out... Have gained about 8lbs, but am confident I'll be back on track to 168 soon...

01/27/12 - Still up around 181 lbs and still struggling to find quality workout time... Only playing racquetball about once every other week, and that just kills me! Thought that having Fridays off would help, but it seems that that's the only time I have for doctor's appointments, auto maintenance, doing the wash, grocery shopping, etc.... Something will break though, and I WILL be back on track!

11/09/12 - Now I've gained another 9 lbs!! Still trying to find time to do workouts... Again, it's sporadic at best. The hours I put in at work don't help, but something's gonna happen! At least I've started getting on track with the food consumption thing...

My Goals:
Had two types of cancers at the end of 2006 into 2007... Went through surgery for one, and chemo/radiation for the other... Was pronounced in remission July 2007, and still cancer free... Figured that eating right and being healthy are a couple of ways to perhaps avoid getting sick again, found Spark People... I am currently at 185 lbs. I basically track my food intake, and watch/change/adjust my eating habits which seems to be a large part of the process. I aim for a minimum 4 days a week of cardio, with 2 days of strength training.

My Program:
Using Sparkpeople Nutrition and Fitness pages to help keep me on track... Constantly reading food labels!! Search the internet to find tables on nutritional values of different foods to help me make smarter choices. I try to walk/run a minimum 4 days a week, and play racquetball at least 2 days (competitive). Weight/strength training.

Hi Ted!

I substitute taught in various preschools over the past few years. I became much more authoritative and assertive. They offered to hire me several times. It came down to this, that I loved the children but did not find the content or the work fulfilling. It did not challenge me enough.

A few weeks ago I cut ties and started subbing in various junior high and high school buildings. (My degree qualifies me to teach adolescent English, grades 7-12). Like the fifth day on the job, I met a pregnant lady in the staff room whose long-term sub bailed the night before. And she needed an English long-term sub. It was my first day in that building, and God just placed me in the right path. I taught her classes on a trial basis two days ago. I loved it and it went really well. The principal hasn't officially agreed yet, but she has formally requested me for her maternity leave. All of this is very exciting to me. It's good experience and could potentially lead to a full-time job. Or if not, at least I get some good references and the chance to meet all the teachers in the building.

I hope you are doing well! I hope to get to The Thirteenth Tale soon.

Take care, friend!

Trisha

Hi Ted!

The first day on the new job went well! I had been working as a substitute teacher at various preschools. It taught me to be more assertive and more patient, and I love working with the children, but I did not love the content or the "work." Yesterday my assignment was teaching 8th grade English, which is my area of licensure, and I really enjoyed it! I hope to eventually fill my schedule at the junior and senior highs exclusively in hopes of a new job this fall!

Hi Ted! Thank you for encouraging me on my blog today!

That special someone is a boy I knew in high school and more or less ignored. Now that we are older, I'm surprised to find myself very interested in him. (It's funny the turnarounds life sends us!)

Right now I'm in the middle of transitioning to a new job - actually my first day is tomorrow! As soon as I am more settled I will "make it my style"! That will probably take the form of a phone call, or knowing me a short letter. If things go right I'm sure there will be an elated blog in the near future ;)

Have a fantastic week, friend!

Oh Ted. The sad truth is that I was not even lifting dumbbells!

emoticon

They were only bodyweight exercises - pushups, squats, lunges, mountain climbers, burpees, jackknifes, etc. I am just that out of shape! I got out of the habit in May, and have done absolutely no resistance training since. It will be a rude awakening! I am taking it very slowly for now :)

As always, thank you for the great advice!
