My Goals:
To be a healthier, slimmer me! I want to live to see my very young grand-children graduate from college and marry someday. I don't want to be a burden to my children because I didn't take care of myself.

Goals for 2011
Finish the 1/2 marathon Meghan (my daughter) & I signed up for in June. Done! 6/5/11
Lose my last 30 pounds
Walk 1000 miles. Done
10/30/11

My Program:
Pretty simple......I eat less, count calories and write down everything I put in my mouth. I move more. I walk at least 10,000 steps everyday, I lift weights and do toning videos. I try to be inefficient........walking more to do household chores etc.

Personal Information:
My name is Terry and I'm 57 years old. I've been happily married for 37 years, have 2 daughters, 36 & 29 and four grand-children, 7, 5, 2 and 22 months! I live in So. California in Upland, about 40 NE east of Los Angeles.

Other Information:
I love to read, especially love to listen to books on my iPod. It's what I do every morning on my walk! I enjoy gardening and photography. Most of all I love being with my family and spend as much time as I can with my kids and grand-kids. They keep me young and the smaller I get the more I can keep up with them!

Thanks for your comment on my blog. You asked about the pessary. I'm thinking I share way TMI about myself and my personal problems, so I decided to reply on YOUR page instead of my blog! emoticon

I had a pessary installed yesterday. Installed? I don't think that's the right word. Inserted? Anyhow--it's in. At first I had a lot of leakage and thought, "Good grief, I didn't have much of a problem with incontinence before, and now I DO? This is supposed to take care of a problem like that if you have one." But I think it was the lubricant they had used, because today it seems better. I told Du about it, and he told me I might need to start wearing diapers again. Before I lost weight, my incontinence got so bad, I was wearing adult diapers all the time. How sad is that? Now I rarely even wear those mini pads, so at least that problem is pretty much gone. But I did have an awful sense of urgency to urinate quite often. The problem was, half the time when I sat down to go, nothing came out. So I assume it was just the bladder resting against something it shouldn't have been, since it was poking out of me, which caused the pressure, and it seemed to happen more, especially after I had been up and about a lot, like fixing dinner or on a walk, or shopping in a store! I know my bladder would poke out more when I was up, than if I had been sitting or laying in bed. Like I said, this is a lot of personal stuff, but you asked, so I'm talking!

I was never comfortable wearing tampons, back when I needed them, and always wore pads instead. The tampons were an irritant to me, I could always "feel" them and did not like that feeling of discomfort. Today I am still "feeling" the pessary. I am to go back in a week and she (my doctor) will check it. So far I am able to void and defecate with it in, and it hasn't fallen out yet, so that is good. I am hoping I will eventually forget it is inside of me, and it will quit being an irritant. I did walk last night, but we didn't go too far, because it was kind of uncomfortable. Of course last night I was still leaking that lubricant. I hope that problem is gone now.

The doctor told me that some people take them out every night before bed, clean them and re-insert them either right away or in the morning. I'm not sure that I'm going to be able to put it back in.....it was a lot of pressure when she put it inside of me, so I'm not sure that I can do it myself. She did mention that many people leave them in for up to two months, then come to her, she takes it out and either cleans it, or puts in a new one. So that would be okay with me I guess. I don't relish the idea of going to a doctor so often, but I am picking this alternative over more surgery.

The hysterectomy I had a year ago was to take care of this problem, it was the only reason had the surgery, but as I have stated, my doctor told me that with all my excess skin inside, she couldn't see what she was doing and thus could not put in the mesh to hold up my prolapsed organs. She said that I would need to go to a specialist in Omaha. Who even considered the possibility that there would be excess skin inside after a major weight loss? I mean I can see it on the outside, but INSIDE? Crazy. Good luck with your pessary, hope it goes well. I'm giving mine this first week, until I go back to see my doctor and am hoping I can leave it inside long term, with comfort, and that it solves my "urgency" problem. I wish us both luck!!
