Ooh, yes, them chemicals.... applies to men, too! Unfortunately, we've allowed our lives to become so complex and detached from the 'nature' of our well-being that 'nurture' becomes the dominant influence, and when you're surrounded by certain behaviours, our pack instinct seemingly takes over and we mostly conform. It takes a strong will and personality to buck the trend, but those people who dare, stand as beacons for those that crave the change, but can't figure how to achieve it. However, the pack, or more accurately, 'the herd', often dislike the status quo changing and they resist, actively and passively, to discredit or even destroy the individual. And so another hurdle is created for those following.
To be a contributing individual within a caring and supporting society is my goal. I want to be a positive within the community I live, be it local or global. I recognise and celebrate the differences, physical and chemical, between men and women and strive to understand the consequences. It's a huge subject that would take a lifetime to explore, but accepting the similarities and differences would be a good place to start.
Nature decrees we come from a mother and a father and the hormones that each contribute to the resulting child will certainly influence how that person acts and reacts to internal and external influences, but Society shapes and guides the ensuing life experience with its own influences. Masculine and feminine traits will be encouraged or suppressed according to societal rules, no matter the gender.
We're not born to be alone. After all, we all need the same things to survive and thrive, and Society still needs carers and providers, but the boundaries as to who provides those elements have shifted, or even broken down- it's just that a lot of people didn't notice?

It's an interesting list, but probably outdated, now- or I would hope so, anyway! The problem lies not in the minds of men, but in the minds of people. Society as a whole is slow to grow and adapt to changes in the world order. Most women, even now, seem to have accepted their lot in life as the baby and home providers, just as much as men have been willing to go along with it. And I know many women who insist on trying to combine both roles, of home maintainer and bread provider, and I know many men too weak to fight it, so both stay unhappy in their perceived roles, rather than sharing the burdens. But are they stupid, or just following the patterns and behaviours set down by their forebears, and followed for comforts sake, unchanged and unquestioned, decades after they were proven to be unworkable in this modern world?

To be honest, I despair whenever I hear or read about the man/woman divide. I wish we could just recognise that a role is a role and all but childbearing can be achieved successfully by either!

Can you guess it's a bete noir of mine? emoticon
