Living Less Large
We all know what to do, but life gets in the way - not having enough time, physical limitations, special occasions, etc. These things will NEVER go away; success in anything we do depends on how we handle it. It's coming at us, whether we like it or not - we must adapt. Concentrate on the positive, even if it's foreign at first. GIVE IT SIX WEEKS. Make a two-month calendar and tape it prominently. Vow to exercise (your choice as long as it gets your heart pumping) at least 30 minutes per day, six days per week, for six weeks. Put a big red X through each day that you exercise. Just like SparkPoints, it's motivating to see the big red Xs stack up. By the time you keep this up for just six weeks, you will have formed a habit. By then, it will be as natural as brushing your teeth. You won't feel right if you don't do it. I'm not saying it won't be a chore sometimes, just like doing laundry, but you'll do it. Break the 30 minutes up if you have to. I've heard the best cardio is achieved when your heart rate is increased for at least 20-minute , but if you have to break it up, it's better than not doing it at all. YOUR OWN CHEERING SECTION My favorite part of SparkPeople is checking on and replying to my SparkFriends' status updates. It's like Facebook for Fitness! I also really enjoy the message boards (under COMMUNITY). People are so friendly and encouraging - you'll find that you're not in this alone. If you're down, your SparkFriends will pick you up and they'll applaud your successes. It's addicting, but there are far worse things to be addicted to!

My Goals:
* Lower BP (gone from 10 mg to 2.5!) * Avoid diabetes(strong family history) - so far so good * Walk thru the house unabashedly naked - goal almost met - RAN thru the house naked. Still waiting for the leisurely WALK. * Take a shower without locking the bathroom door - GOAL MET * Shrink my belly - slowly but surely making progress
My Program:
I've gradually worked up to at least 70 minutes of cardio per day, 6 days per week. Lately it's been 90 minutes. I usually take two 15-minute walking breaks at work. In the afternoons I alternate between exercise videos (TaeBo, Step Reebok, Firm I and II) and my treadmill. To get my cardio on Saturdays, I aim for serious housecleaning (mopping, scrubbing showers, vacuuming, etc.) in addition to traditional exercise. Any other purposeful movement is GRAVY (nonfat).
Personal Information:
Everything I have to do or like to do involves sitting on my butt! I'm 50, married and have 2 grown sons who have left the nest. I always used to dream of having more time to exercise and now I have it. Now, if I just don't overdo it and hurt myself...
Other Information:
I'm a SparkPeople and Facebook junkie. Again, more sitting on my butt. I've also started a new hobby of having my picture taken SITTING in giant chairs. I live in South St. Louis County, Missouri, USA.
