I belonged to another online community before: MyFoodDiary.com. I lost 80+lbs using those tools, but I was in college, and as my life changed, my healthy habits did too. I gained about 40-50lbs. I didn't have enough motivation to continue the program and was wasting a lot of money, so I left it. I'm looking for something new to revitalize my interest in a healthy lifestyle, and Sparkpeople has help me -so much- at this point.
I have about twenty pounds off! What?!? I know it is working. I may not be able to go on a shopping spree for S or XS clothing, but my current clothes fit much better. I already feel better about clothing shopping. I'm hoping I need to go shopping soon! :) And more unintended consequences (that have been the best of all, go figure): I no longer have a muffin top, even though I am still overweight. I had a muffin top when I was 40 pounds lighter! I can sprint through a parking lot if I need to without getting winded. And lastly, I have found something new to bond with my partner about. Neither of us really liked running or exercise, but we pull each other up each week to finish our "runs". We even make little games out of them, seeing who can walk the treadmill at the highest incline, or sprint the fastest speed (within reason). Exercise is fun. Fun???? Yeah, I guess it has been fun.
These are the things that keep me going... Things I didn't have before when I lost weight, when I cut my calories to 1200 max (usually 1000), still didn't exercise and weighed myself three times a day. These are things I didn't have when I got a new job, made new friends and began even more terrible eating habits, gaining loads of weight (twice since then). These are things that keep me going this time around. These things, and you. Yes, you, who is reading this right now. This community, with the profiles, the articles, the recipes, the SUPPORT, is keeping me going more than ever. When I go to the cupcake shop and everyone is getting pastries and milkshakes, I say "what would Spark think?" and order a hot tea instead. When I go to the gym, I say, " I can't wait to report this to Spark!" Thanks for that. :) Thanks for giving me my life back.
I saw a quote on here once, something like: Nothing tastes better than skinny. Well, really, nothing tastes better than fit/healthy/(and yes)skinny. So true.

I would like to be able to run a 5k in 2013.
I want to complete comfortably the Dirty Girl Mud Run with friends on 6/22/13.
I would like to lose at least 25lbs in a 1 year period, or drop two pants sizes. The sizes are more important to me than the scale.
I have become flexitarian. It's sad, but admittedly, one of the reasons I still occasionally eat meat is that it is easier than explaining to family members that I don't eat meat and the dietary requirements that go with it.
I am nearly midway through the C25k program, and really... TRULY proud of myself for making it this far! I never would have thought I could run for 3 minutes straight, as small as that seems.
I'm still working on limiting some more of my evening calories, but am pretty good with my morning and afternoon calories. Strangely enough I eat better when I'm out than at home, so that's something I need to work on.
I am 27 years old, from the Reading, PA area. I grew up in NEPA, ironically in the town that the Steamtown Marathon starts at, ironic because I've never truly ran in my life. I'm hoping to change that. I am not a kid person, but I am a "mom" to a 13 year old sheltie, Spunky, 3.5 year old Siamese cat, Ezra and three ferrets all around 6 years old: Mercator, Ava and Keegan. Mercator is the momma's boy, Keegan is the trouble maker and Ava is my misfit whom I rescued from a very tough situation. We don't know her true age, but she is somewhere from 6-8 years old, and has been living with us for approximately 4 years.
I work local government, and am just moving up the corporate ladder to Cartographer/Codes Enforcement Officer. I enjoy local wine touring and microbrews in my spare time. I hope to run in my spare time too!
"Whatever we learn has a purpose and whatever we do affects everything and everyone else, if even in the tiniest way. Why, when a housefly flaps his wings, a breeze goes round the world; when a speck of dust falls to the ground, the entire planet weight a little more; and when you stamp your foot, the earth moves slightly off its course. Whenever you laugh, gladness spreads like the ripples in a pond; and whenever you're sad, no one anywhere can be really happy. And it's much the same thing with knowledge, for whenever you learn something new, the whole world becomes that much richer."
