Making it Happen

2013 was a great year:

I hit my goal weight (for a hot minute).
We hiked in Shenandoah National Park and on the Appalachian Trail.
We hiked in Colorado.
We hiked the Inca Trail in Peru to Macchu Picchu.
We took a river cruise down the Rhine River through The Netherlands, Germany, and France.

And that was great, but 2014 is going to be EPIC!!

I am going to set a goal of 124 pounds, for a total loss of 60 pounds.

I am going to stay active in team challenges.

I am going to set a goal of six fitness classes per week, and three half marathons in 2014.

We are going to travel west and do a lot more hiking in the Dakotas, Utah, and Colorado.

We are going to plan another Fall hiking trip -- perhaps Bhutan, or Nepal...?

Life is exciting! Every day is a gift!

I don't know what "factory farmed chicken" is but I can tell you that Sanderson Farms raises it's chickens in what us locals just call "Chicken Houses" - they contract out and people have the houses built to specs and they use the feed and peeps provided by Sanderson Farms - they get paid by the number of chickens raised to the finish.

23042-20191&AU=N&FT=P will give you an idea of what they look like. You can google "chicken houses for sale in ms" for more information and pictures.

You have to have a minimum of acres, usually 40, and most brands do the same thing - like Marshall Durbin too. I guess you can google "chicken brands raised locally" but I know of Sanderson Farms (big) and Marshall Durbin and would trust either brand. Up north we ate Purdue chickens.

I saw your comment on Brooklyn_Born's page, this is why I am telling you.

Have an awesome day!

I really enjoyed your comment on my blog :-). Thank you. It was WATERMELLEN who suggested joining the Maintainers' team quite a while back. Until I started reading there, I thought weight loss was 1. Diet 2. Get to goal 3. Forget about it. Then I spent time puzzling about what goal weight is. I've found answers from just below BMI 30 down to 22!
emoticon Basically we just decide our own goal weight, I suppose.

The cost of organic is something I struggle with too. I've always been a very frugal cost conscious person. Hey, I shop at Goodwill!
The difference in the chicken was $4.79 vs $2.79 per pound. Not as great as yours but still significant. I actually bought a package of each to compare. I did notice a big difference in the amount of waste. The regular stuff had globs of fat hidden underneath the nice looking breasts. I didn't weight it, but the organic had absolutely none of that.

I also wonder how junk food can be so cheap. DH's "Little Debbie" is always on sale. It's probably because they sell so much.

Thanks for your great comments on my blog and for the friend add. I've added you back, of course!

I'm all too familiar with the "disappearing act" I described in my blog, so I know how very important it is to stay connected to our support systems when we're really struggling. After all, that's what they're there for!

Please let me know if you ever need anything. If I can't help you personally from my own experiences, I can at least try to point you in the right direction.

Have a great weekend!
